No, the Stryker cannot defeat MBTs. It has no ATGMs and lacks off-road mobility, there is however a dedicated ATGM variant for the Styrker that can defeat MBTs. Even the BTR-82A has better mobility and capable amphibious crossing, unlike the Stryker. The Stryker was notorious for being destroyed by roadside mines, even with the V-hull. Despite its lack of amphibious ability, this is possible with the replacement for the LAV-25 called ACV 1.1 developed by Lockheed Martin.

I say shrink the whole thing down and make it also a drone. With two air attack drones and maybe some rc controlled off road explosive laden hobby racing cars. That way you can have a real Stryker parked a mile away and roll up with a miniature army to test defensive positions and take out key points like mg nests and bunkers...

It's interesting watching these videos. As I was in the Army in a Stryker Brigade when the M1296 and the M1128 MGS were still coming soon. Strykers in general were great vehicles in the mission. Yet it did feel silly training in them as armored vehicles when they are basically just bigger M113's on wheels. Hopefully the guys in my old unit are running this newer M1296 version.

Two per infantry platoon. One for the CO and one for the 2IC. Then a vehicle with a 50 cal and one with a 40mm grenade launcher. We have the same problem that these units have, in our mechanised infantry platoons. Too little firepower. We use the new Piranha 5. But I actually think it would be better to give all 4 vehicles the smaller M230LF Bushmaster gun. All with a 7.62mm coax MG. And then give the CO and 2IC's vehicles an ATGM(we use Spike LR2). Can be done with Kongsberg's RS 6 RWS 🤷‍♂️ Makes training easier.

Partially correct that 30mm got enough punch to induce a mobility kill. It can knockout external ammo/ fuel supply, optical sights, sensors, APS, primary driveline components including linkage bolts on tracked vehicles, list goes on like when the Bradley IFVs had to engage T72s in Op. Desert Storm

Put a radar on there and electronicky set fuses to detonate at the ranges a ballistic computer gives it... and make the gun be controlled by the radar/ballistic computer and you have a vehicle perfect for shooting down drones and cruise missiles. Germany has something like this with 2 guns, but it is old and need upgrading. Add a few Stingers for fun...

The 105mm just fills this weird space where it hits a little harder than our ifv can with atgm while losing most of it's troop carrying capabilities. While it's faster than an mbt it can't reliably put out the power and volume of fire that an MBT can. Now that we have light tanks coming in that will more than likely have the same firepower but with better protection the 105mm version is redundant at this point

It is not a true turret because it does not extend down into the hull. It sits on the roof of the vehicle and does not take up any space in the troop compartment. It does add two tons of weight though.

Oh, this is funny. I watched a video a few weeks ago about the Stryker and how everybody hated it. A big complaint about it was the lack of internal cooling when it was deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. They ended up installing a mini AC unit onto the starboard side at the rear. Also that the armor was only thick enough to stop small arms fire but was useless against even .50 caliber. Please don't ask me for any details to find the video, because I have no way of finding it other than a keyword search here on KZbin. And you guys can do that as easy as I can. ETA The video popped up as a recommended video at the end. It is also by US Military News and is titled M1128 Stryker: The 105mm Mobile Gun That Everybody Hates. Well, at least now you know that I watch multiple videos by the poster.

The Dragoon is a separate vehicle in itself and you will see those vehicles in a Cavalry Unit. The Stryker with the .50 Cal is still being used as part of the HQ's element for CASEVAC or C2. I still like the Hammerhead strykers. The 173rd and 2ND CR are not the only elements in the military that has stryker systems.

@@timmcpherson9632 It would be blocked by the USAF, but it can be "bent", as it has been by the army's purchase of the V-280 Valor tiltrotor aircraft. Obviously, when that rule was made they didn't predict that one day there'd be hybrid aircraft in operation. I mean, what do you class those aircraft? They're neither planes nor helicopters, hence why the army can get around the rule and use them, as can all the services.

Complete lack of amphibious capability aside, I wonder if the M1296 Stryker would be a good replacement for our aging M2 Bradley IFVs? Slightly bigger gun, hopefully thicker armor, able to carry 3 extra people in the back while requiring one less person to operate, and a much higher on-road top speed (60 mph iirc instead of the Bradley's painfully slow 35), I think it might work.

Larger vehicles simply out range that gun unless it’s a ambush situation and with hi ranging drones which you can see you and you can’t even see them that’s unlikely. That only applies to near peer fights this vehicle would be great for someone like the Saudi’s but against say a large modern army it’s still a huge step up but just adequate. No game changer though
