M140i - Manual or Auto?

I've covered pretty much everything on a M140i from, MPG to Launch Control to modifying to comparing it to the M240i. The only I've not yet done is try a manual M140i.
So if you looking at buying a used M140i/M240i and thinking manual or Auto then watch this Vid for pros and cons.

Change the gear box oil on the manual. Then it gets smoother changes. I got a manual cos it's more engaging. Each to their own I guess.

Great review Mo 👍 Pleasure to have given you the chance to take the car out for a trial. Gears can be a bit hit and miss at the start, BUT once you get used to it it become a natural feel. For comments on Double Res Delete.. It's deeper and louder than just getting an MPE and that's on a standard Backbox.

Just picked up a Manual M140i. Third gear pulls are insane. Pulls hard all the way from 30 to 100+ MPH.

Happy new year mate...few queries...as I am contemplating a manual...hows the clutch...is it light / smooth? Does it do auo rev match also in comfort mode? And lastly is the gear change from 1st to 2nd and back is smooth...had a very bad experience with my 116d sport...so was just wanted to know if the msport gearbox is any better than the regular se or sport gearbox

Clutch has a good feel. Gear change best described as inconsistent. It feels different each time. Rev matches in sport only I believe. Can't compare to the 116d gearbox as not driven them. I can only say.... If you don't like the manual then go for the Auto in these.

Really honest review, auto all day long for me... I've heard a few people say it's a struggle to engage 2nd and 3rd gear, with such a sweet engine that would just waste the whole experience. Love the colour and the black wheels though, and sounds mega! Happy new year mate and keep posting the great reviews!

Happy new year to you too Ronnie. Inconsistent gear change experience can dull the drive. However it is a 6cyl manual in today's forever growing downsized auto engines. Simon's car is very good looking though!

I know this video its 4 years old but im debating in to buy either the manual or auto. Never had an auto in 13 years of driving. Does the manual has the same b58 engine as the auto? Is there a 5 door manual?

Great video man! Would you say the dual res delete sounded better and louder in tone, not just for pops and crackles than the MPE itself? Because my dad's M140 already has MPE but we don't find it loud and dramatic enough, especially with the windows up 😂 Dunno if it's defo worth getting a midpipe on the MPE...

I have the MPE on mine. The double Res delete on this sounded loud. If you double Res delete the MPE it will sound pretty mad. Have a look at the 440i Vid I did. That has a full catback MPE from BMW which is not available on the M140i. However if you do a double Res delete you'll get same results as that 440i....

Auto all day long. BMW can't make a decent manual gearbox.And they stopped trying to a few years ago. It's strange how Honda can produce a great one in a civic, with rods and cables going to a transverse layout.

Thanks for your comment mate. Yes Honda manual gearbox is right on point. If anyone that hasn't tried it they should. Some of them have had issues but majority of them seem to be just fine.

I guess my last manual car was the Honda Civic Type R FK2 and the pedals in that were straight giving a real race car feel with the light weight of them and the short throw of the gearbox....

I came from a 2009 Honda diesel CRV! I found I kept catching my left foot on the footrest when I first got it but now I do not. I don’t drive for work, so auto not required so when I found a manual M140i locally with pro nav, HK, red leather, rear tints, black grills & some other extras I drove it and had to have it. Very pleased with my new toy.

Actually thats because the travel on the manuals are quite far making you press further and twist abit. Get a bms clutch stop and it get rids of it.. also. The weighted m performance short shifter is a game changer. Shorter throw and more notchy with a solid feeling changing gears..

Had the manual m140 I and now own the auto m140l I’d say the manual isn’t brilliant ! 2nd to 3rd is notchy and it uses more fuel! Not by much though... I’m glad I swapped it for the 8 speed auto..

I found the in gear pull strong... Bit notchy and inconsistent as in each same gear change had a different feel.

Glad i got the auto in my m240. Before when i was at the dealership looking at cars i tried the manual box on z4 and instantly did not like it. Felt cheep and spungy. The z8 is an amazing auto.
