I think when he said “think of this device [M2] as from the future” rather than imperative right now, that’s spot on. The M2 is so ludicrously overpowered, it’ll stay relevant to mobile video editors and graphic designs using an Apple Pencil for probably the majority of this decade and I mean that very literally. The fact my older A12X iPad Pro that’s almost half-decade old can still render 4k video editing and airdropping to my Mac efficiently after for further polishing or uploading is a testament to the future-proof mentality Apple has toward the ‘Pro’ iPad lineup at this time and I’m extremely grateful for that 🙏

No doubt M2 is one of the most powerful chips out there. So is the M1 and the A12X. But I think we reached the point where software is the limit to a greater experience. iPad still has iPad-apps. That also work the same way on my 2019 iPad Air.

If an OEM wants to give us the best chip they have, then even if it is overkill, why would anyone complain? It is not just performance, it is efficiency and the extras the M-chips give, like media encoders/decoders, ML and so on. I simply fail to understand anyone complaining about too much power as I wonder where they are coming from? iPad apps are pretty good, and yes we do not have desktop apps, but guess what? The iPad is a tablet, not a desktop!

I’m considering it, I have the 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 and it has a wear mark on the glass towards the bottom of the screen and it has a persistent problem where KZbin videos pause in the first ten seconds, sometimes it pauses twice. Seems to be a buffering problem but my other ipads don’t have this problem. I have reinstalled YT and turned it off/on and tried to reclaim memory etc. Plan B is to just use the other two ipads I have for YT (mini 6 and 12.9 3rd gen) and save the money.

The Apple Pencil 2 hover feature has made it impossible for me to write on the new iPad Pro M2. The handwriting looks absolutely glitchy and horrible. Does anyone who's purchased the new iPad Pro M2 have the same problem? However, I tried using my Apple Pencil 2 on the iPad Pro M1 with GoodNotes, Notability and CollaNote. So the problem isn't on the M1 iPad Pros; it's only happening on M2 iPad Pros. So please test the Apple Pencil on the M2 iPad Pro on any notetaking apps, and you'll see what I mean.

I purchased an M1 iPad Pro 12.9 in June 2022 (WiFi, 1 TB) for $2699 Australian. I am shocked that the M2 equivalent version on Apple Store right now has jumped in price to $3129 Australian. I believe this is an unprecedented price increase. For example my Gen 1 AirPods Pro cost $399 and that’s the exact same price I paid for the Gen 2 version on release. Furthermore, there is much I actively dislike about iPad OS 16.1. I wish I had not upgraded from version 15.7. The iPad OS 16.1 does not offer certain very important features that ARE present on the iPhone iOS 16.0… Generally, disappointed in many respects… except for feeling good that I have saved over $400 by grabbing the nice M1 12.9 as it entered its last few months of availability:-)

I rejected the M2… but would have bought it without hesitation, if it could simply justify the magnitude of the price hike. Geekbench benchmarking showed only minor gains for that major price increase. The M1 will be remembered historically as the chip that gave us a major performance boost for virtually the same price-it was also the first of its generation and offered new horizons of possibility-while the M2 chip is an incremental progression at best :-(

Although I have an M1 iPad Pro 12.9', but I will not upgrade for the M2, apple tries to sell us the same last year's iPad with a new name, they just added a processor that's it. The hover feature actually is a software feature, but they limit it to the M2. And for the camera no one is going to record with a big 13 or 11 inch iPad.

I have m1 and now m2 . I absolutely note no difference whatsoever. Absolutely nothing. On paper it’s faster blah blah blah. Folks if you have m1 don’t upgrade you will get no advantage from doing so. Yes it’s a power monster that has nowhere to go. The raw power is wasted unless you want to run benchmarks all day as these are the only software programs that will make use of the power.
