Is M2 iPad better than M1? Yes. But if you can $200 less to get a M1, then don’t waste your money on M2. (Instant regret here) The position of the iPad is still a recreational device because that shittyOS and stage manager. If you are a casual painter or casual editor, it should be fine. But I will still suggest you to go Cintiq or MacBook Pro. The hover has been there ages, it’s not necessary on laminated screen.

Question about Paperlike 2.1! If I have a previous unused Paperlike 2.0 screen protector for the 12.9” that I can put on the new M2 should I try to sell that and just get Paperlike 2.1? I had a 2018 12.9” model and sold one of the two protectors in the pack along with the iPad so I never really tried it out. I plan to get an 12.9” M2 model now and I’m wondering if it’s worth the hassle and paying the net difference in price for Paperlike 2.1.

Hey! I was hoping to get the iPad pro M2 11inch over the 12.9 due to portability and I'd be using it with a keyboard case and Apple pencil. Main uses would be work and media consumption. Really don't think I need a laptop right now as I barely use my old MacBook Pro from 2011. Would you consider the 11inch a good option over 12.9 for the above reasons?

You could save a lot by going for an iPad air 64GB, provided that you store most things in the cloud (which should be fine, so long as your "work" isn't much more than office apps). If the M1 exclusive features don't mean that much to you, A better buy would be the iPad air 64GB, or, god forbid, the 10th gen iPad 256GB. Hope this helps

Nice clickbait bro. No one is saying not to buy the M2 IPP if you’re looking to upgrade your 5-year-old iPad. They’re saying it’s not worth upgrading from the M1 IPP unless you’re the 0.001% of iPad users who run specialty apps on it that would actually put all that processing power and memory to good use. Until we see Final Cut Pro or Xcode or similar desktop-class pro apps for iPadOS, even the M1 iPads are massively overpowered. Only reason I bought the M1 last year is because it was a massive upgrade from my Gen 5 base iPad and I knew the M1 would be future-proof for many years.

Can you run an external monitor yet without having the ipad pro display on? Or do you always have to have the monitor on somewhere and mirror the display, and have weird aspect ratios for external monitors? I really want to have an ipad as a daily driver, I definitely hit memory limits on my 4gbmemory ipad pro 2018. So these new devices seem to be kind of exactly what I want with stage manager. Assuming I could also use it in this config.....

if you're buying a keyboard whenever you are getting an ipad to use it as a macbook and use the apple pencil only to take notes why would you even think to get an ipad on the first place? the money won't be worth obviously, the ipad PRO has always been directed for people who use the pencil professionally which is obvious is not going to be worth for most of the people at all, ending up with reviews from normal users calling it useless because it is for their use

Actually, it can be very useful for those who want an IPad Pro and keyboard for those who also have a laptop. I use my iPad & keyboard all the time as a laptop replacement when I don’t want to lug around a huge amount of weight and cables to class. Also, the software is easier to navigate for those who have online classes, it’s basically a side kick for your main computer. I find total use out of this set up. Also, I don’t draw and never have and I still have tons of reasons to use my iPad Pro.

Hey Chris, Thank you for the review. i have asked around but am still not confident in choice, the M2 iPad pro will actually be my first apple product of my own. what would you recommend size wise to be able to run Davinci Resolve and edit personal 4K gopro video for KZbin videos. will 128GB with a external SSD to store the videos on be good ? Or just purchase the 1TB IF i can swing the cost. Maybe just use Lumafusion? other use will be just browsing and note taking, simple things. My Cell carrier only offers the 128GB and does not allow bring your own tablet. but honestly probably wouldn't need cell service. thank you for your time.
@mich3lz
@mich3lz Жыл бұрын
I would recommend you to get 1 TB without cell service. I am buying and using iPads since the beginning and the only thing I was always regretting, was making a compromise for the storage specs. iPads last forever and the only problem you will face eventually is that you run out of storage. Better invest a bit more now and not having to buy a new one after some years just because of the storage. 4K 60fps HDR takes up quite some space and this didn't exist years ago. Soon there will be iPhones taking 8K and trust me you will need the storage for that. Go for 1TB.

I love the straight forward and practice oriented and still entertaining style of Chris. In this video he is again the only one in the ocean of reviewers who took the time to really discover the advantages of the new Ipad Pro. Of course, as usual with Apple the number of new functions ist limited because real innovation takes time to develop and they always give only the dose where they expect most of the clients are prepared to buy. Many people have such a high demand for new features that they underestimate the level that is reached. Chris brilliantly discovered what was beyond the obvious. My favorite tech channel.

Hi, thanks for your great work! A question and solution regarding webcam on iPad Pro ... Apple has unfortunately still not managed on the new iPad Pro 6th generation to position the camera in landscape mode. If that does not work because of the magnetic holder of the pen, they could certainly make it possible, for example, a Belkin iPhone Mount with MagSafe for iPad's to make that one simply hangs the iPhone on the Magic Keyboard and iPad as it is possible with the MacBook Air and you can use the iPhone as a reasonable Wifi webcam for iPad's Pro, software-wise they could certainly get it done with iOS and would be a solution for everything. Why does Apple suppress it for years that they do not offer external webcam solutions to connect to the iPad?

It’s always true with gadgets, devices, computers, tech: you can never have too much power/speed/storage. What does happen though, is you run out of money before you get the the version of your desired device, with every last iota of performance and features added! I create music on the ipad, and only the ipad. I had tried to use other methods, and I mean from 4-track cassettes, thrpugh lovely Atari’s and on to Cubase on PCs, and the tech was a roadblock for me. I got onto GarageBand on an ipad Pro and the problems now, are mostly music ones, exactly how I like it! With back-taxes returned, I managed to just about buy a used M1 iPad Pro 12.9”, and Apple silicon is a big step forward. They took power usage seriously and it’s as if somehow other chip makers/designers had never thought this aspect was massively limiting development - I mean, I had no idea why power consumption mattered in CPU design, and I had just bought a massive cooling apparatus (!) to clip onto my PC’s CPU - it’s got bits of copper tubing sticking out and all sorts. But I digress…cannot have too much computing power and performance, no such thing. The more performance/spec you can get, the further into the future the device will run, the greater the useful life, the longevity. What struck me was, a lot of the ‘influencers’ were banging on about how the ‘design’ wasn’t giving them much new - but they mean the shape of the device. Really, that’s it? It’s a tablet-ty chopping-board of a thing, they can only do so much, people! The M1 is a stonking chip, and it’s a leap forward. The M2, sufficiently spooked some owners of the M1 devices, so they sold it in case it lost a lot of its value - lucky for me. So I highly rate the M1, and the M2 is actually a significant spec bump - like I say, maybe it enables you to run decent complex apps for another year or two into the future. The cost, is where we come up against our limits probably. I absolutely have been immensely lucky to have back-taxes arrive, and be able to pick up the totally top-spec M1 ipad Pro for exactly 5/8 of the brand-new price. It was only 6 months old. This was a lucky buy, I’d been limiting my search to 1Tb SSD, the minimum to get 16Gb of RAM on-board activated, when I realised, people were offloading the 2Tb models for almost no more money. I was very pleased, and now, nearly a year later, my wife has just about calmed down. Heck, she’s still here, we’ll count that a win. Yes, the cost, if you look on Apple’s shop, and go for broke (!) to the topmost spec, in the UK here, it’s a whopping £2,700 ish, you just need to add the magic keyboard and it’s kissing three grand. I think I am right in saying, you cannot buy the M1 on Apple’s shop now? So once the stocks at other outlets are run through, it’ll be the M2 you can buy new. In other words, I am saying, the great thing about the M2, and it’s price, is the M1 used, is now a very good deal. The M2 is superior to the M1, but does not throw shade on it so far as to hint at obsoletion. And of course, it’s all about trade-offs. M1 with top spec, 2Tb and so 16Gb memory, versus M2 model with a much lower spec of these ancillaries, for example. You’d only go for the M2 if flat-out computational ability, outweighed all-else. And if you can afford the M2, there are only two things against it: the fact that darned front camera is still on the left side; and the tantalising likelihood there’s a 14” iPad Pro lurking out in 2023 somewhere, maybe 2024 latest. But neither of these things, or anything else, blurs the fact this M1 ipad of mine, does everything I need, and keeps the focus of my music-making, on music, more than tech - although tech and music are like peanut butter and jelly (ech!), so closely intertwined these days. But my view, is one of the seasoned IT men of old, I won’t see forty again (cough!) and I still have a tin box with my 4-track cassette tapes as ‘masters’! There’s just no comparison, I am not lucky about much, and not rich, but the government hanging on to money that was mine not theirs, then M2 making more affluent people itchy for the best selling-on price they could achieve, worked for me. I can look at the long arc of 40 years of music creation, and know how lucky we are at this time. I won’t be griping about how the rectangular chopping-board computer, has no rounded edges! Take care all, be at peace, count the blessings you have, and can work towards realistically obtaining. No need to sweat every last MHz or Gb. Make what you can obtain or what you have already, do the most for you it can. That’s a win. Thanks for the positive video.

There is little advantage over the previous M1 IPad pro and I agree that the software needs an upgrade not the hardware. 1. First of all, you can basically do everything on an M1 that an M2 can do except from the ProRes camera and the hover functionality. 2. In terms of speed, not a lot of users would even notice that except you have a really unique use case then sure. If you were to do a review of the iPad Pro M2, what would you really say in the review that’s not already on the iPad Pro M1? 3. Now tell me, who reaaaalllly uses their iPad to take pictures and videos lol when you have got an even better camera on your iPhone? Would you use your iPad Pro M2 over your iPhone 14 pro? 4. The camera on the side of the M1 was already a big issue with you on cam from an angle, then the M2 repeats the same again? If this was addressed, maybe it could be an option but still not enough to move over. 5. Would you buy the Porsche 911 2023 when you have the Porsche 2022 because the 2023 edition has a “Walk to the 911 and the door just opens up for you?” You said it yourself, the hover functionality is a “cool” feature but is that a game changer? Only if you do not have an iPad Pro then yes, go for it. But if you already have an M1, don’t waste your money. The hover feature is just a hype that I am sure after the first few days or weeks of using the iPad Pro M2, if you were asked if you still use the hover feature, I’m sure you wouldn’t anymore. It’s cool but not that cool to cop the M2 iPad Pro.

I think a lot of the iPad M2 reviews assumed everyone somehow already had the M1 iPad or that no one uses the pencil. If you had the M1 already then no, its likely not a huge (worthwhile) upgrade for you. If the pencil isn't your thing, it's probably a no for you too. We're at a point where the yearly revisions of most tech products are not stratospheric changes. However, I really appreciate this more positive review in the sea of negative M2 iPad coverage. If you're good with what you have, fantastic! If you do feel this is for you, enjoy it!

You hit the nail on the had. That's exactly how I feel. I see M1 ipad pro owners complaining about the updates as if they were forced to upgrade. On today's market that's kind of miraculous by itself.

Coming from an iPad Pro 10.5 (2017) I am very happy with my purchase. There are many improvements in addition to speed. The 11.0 window size is more symmetrical(even borders). The WiFi6e is amazingly fast. Files is much faster with my 7000 documents. I get maximum through put with my new WiFi 6E router. I really like the Apple 2 pencil that rests on the side(top) of the iPad depending on the orientation. Apple still falls short with its keyboard case design. No 360 degree protection of the edges of the iPad. Enter the Logitech keyboard cases. I chose the Folio Touch and really like the level of protection and keyboard functionality. When closed the pencil is snugly wrapped in the Logitech magnetic closure. Centre Stage on Zoom is fantastic and ends the debate about the camera position on the iPad Pro. DailyTekk I like your points raised in this video. Indeed the iPad Pro M2 is a winner for 2022.

I can definitely sense your excitement. And yes. A lot of reviewers, not too many reviewers because I don’t follow a lot. But I have at least 5 or 6 I like. Maybe 2 of them can disappear. But… They’ve talked me out of the iPad Pro M2. And a lot of that has to do with my (2) needs. An app that allows me to write and Brooke and/or script. And more important to me. Since my degree is in sound and audio engineering. Logic Pro at least. I have a mid-year 2012 MacBook Pro. Slow as hell. And I’m just not interested in another laptop right now. My last iPad was the mini 4th gen. Whenever 2015 was. Maybe 2014. So, I know I’ll be impressed. Plus I bought the 2nd Gen. Apple Pencil last year waiting on the next iPad Pro and other reviewers made me feel like getting an M2 was a waste. And some of their followers too. But you’re the first to make me feel like it’s worth it. And sidebar. Until now. I had no idea the paper like was a screen protector. I’m part of the BodyGuardz family for all things iPhone and iPad mini for the kids. I’m tempted to try it if I breakdown and get the M2 iPad Pro. All this time I thought it was an app. Not screen protector. That’s proof I don’t pay attention like I should. Thanks!

I don't think that people are hating on the M2 iPad Pro's because they're bad, but because there is no incentive to upgrade from previous years. The only thing that I could recommend this iPad for is the Pro apps that it'll receive, but the M1 version is also getting these same apps. The M2 iPad Pro is a phenomenal device, but Apple is shooting themselves in the foot by only making this a chip upgrade and a new hover feature. I think if the orientation of the tablet was like the iPad 10th gen. and had the Apple pencil magnet on the bottom, along with a new magic keyboard that protects both the iPad and Apple pencil with a row of function keys it could definitely be worth it. However, by tomorrow(the 26th) M1's will be on refurbished and that's where I'll be.

Apple never redesigns more than one product from a product line at a time. The pattern is pretty clear. A new design language is first introduced in the Pros, then the Air, then the mini, and finally the base iPad. This time was the base iPad’s turn. With the cycle complete, it’s now the Pros’ turn again. When the next version comes out, it’ll likely have all the rumored features, like a double stacked OLED screen with 1600 nit max brightness in HDR, MagSafe and reverse wireless charging, a landscape camera, an Apple Pencil 3 because the 2 won’t work with that camera there, and a new pin layout supporting a keyboard with additional functionality. I predict that redesign will come out in March 2024.

I’m a hobby artist and the iPad M2 is the one to get if you can afford it, because the hover feature is very useful for painting. It shows a cursor that previews both the brush size and color, which helps a lot with precision. Sure, this isn’t necessary for a pro artist but it doesn’t make sense to me to go for anything less, considering that technology will only go forward and the M2 will be better able to support whatever comes, as opposed to the M1. I get that a lot of people say that an iPad isn’t a laptop. But this all depends on the apps available. As more and better apps become available alongside powerful hardware, I’ve seen some apps that are said to rival their desktop competitors. So if you’re not a professional that actually needs to use a desktop app, than an iPad pro is going to be a great choice. Plus, the flexible form factor can’t be beat by a laptop.

Honestly too reviewers are out of touch with your average joe who uses iPads. They don't often see money as an object when it comes to technology. Either they are really rich, or they'll make more money from their video than the cost of that piece of tech/iPad (plus they can write off from their income the cost of the technology as a business expense). Buying a new iPad every couple years really cuts deep into the pockets of most people. Okay, if the new tech was revolutionary, or a big upgrade I can see the justification. But throwing a bunch more cash on technology that just has a couple minor tweaks? Oh please. The previous generation can do 99.9% of what the new model can do, and you won't really feel satisfaction from upgrading constantly since the device has barely any upgrades from the last year. As you said, differences are noticeable if you upgrade every few years. I just feel reviewers are often really out of touch with the general population and how these features impact them and the factor that is price, and whether you can justify the extra features with price. Since money virtually is no object for these reviews, they almost just see it as a no brainer upgrade since the price doesn't affect them at all, even if the upgrades in question are really small.
