So glad this video was made, they were a once in a generation talent and the fact that they made it so far but don't get any recognition today is a damn shame! But if you know, you know. M2M is one of the best singer songwriter duos in pop music history they just weren't given the chance to go further due to label mismanagement The Day You Went Away is still one of my favorite songs of all time and an absolute breakup banger

M2M has such a hold on us here in the Philippines, esp those who grew up in the early 2000's. I remember this was the first music group my sister & I idolized, and I knew about Norway bc of them lol. For some reason us Filipinos are suckers for love songs/mellow songs/ballads and this era was no exception, along with boybands like westlife & a1 (nysnc was not as popular here). Also, I never knew both of them dated the Hansons???

That "September 22nd Sunday twenty-five after nine" lyric line had Philippines in such a chokehold that to this day, it continues to be a pop culture date that is commemorated every year. Filipino social media pages have started putting that in their content calendar of memes. Every September 22, it just pops up.

Great video, but I can't believe you didn't mention the time Marit performed at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, where she was introduced by Scarlett Johansson and Michael Caine! Also, interesting fact about The Big Room - that album was really mismanaged by Atlantic. Basically half the songs from it were released remixed in South East Asia turning them from pop-rock songs into pop songs. For example, that classic guitar riff from Everything is completely toned down in the SEA version. It wasn't until the American version was released 5 months later that we got to hear the songs as Marit and Marion intended them to be heard.

The difference between the levels of ambition and talent when you look at Norwegian women and teen American women is night and day. Everyone should be super proud of both of them. One point though. The sound track of "Everyone" on Dawson's Creek is the best version I've heard of that song. Unfortunately the song is broken up with the actors doing their lines away from the stage. The base was rocking and the song just popped. I've heard no version of that song with that type of pop that doesn't have the actors interrupting the song. (Nothing against Dawson's Creek. If I never watched the show I would have never discovered M2M). Someone please reply a link to that song without the actor edit cuts.... please. I love that mix. I still think it is the best song I've ever heard from M2M.

Funny thing about the Mirror, Mirror video. It also suffered from censorship, as there are 2 versions of it. In the uncensored version Marion removes the shirt of the boy near the end of the video and he spends the rest of it shirtless. In the censored version, these shots are replaced with other shots of her with the boy fully clothed.

I remember them leaving the Jewel tour being simultaneous with Marion going solo, and as a Marit fan, it took me years to forgive her. Oops, I guess. It was definitely concerning how much TBR focused on Marion. At the time I even would say it was "Marion featuring Marit" rather than a true duo. The reason Marit gave at the time was that she wanted to focus on playing instruments more. I thought they could've still at least given her lead on one song. Then when the breakup happened, and... yeah. I will say, if Marit was happy about it, she could've said so in the diary section of her website, and she didn't. I never got to the point where I thought Marion had nothing to do with M2M's success though. That's absolutely insane.

Drawing on Barbara Bradby's view on the construction of romance in 1960s girl-group songs, I suggest an interpretation of "Don't Say You Love Me" as "a complex of active sexual desire tempered by real needs, such as that for reciprocation" - or, in the case of M2M, the need for control, for asserting the narrative "I" as an active subject who shows how she keeps the nondescript "you" from violating her integrity. - Taken from "Scratching the Surface" by Jon Mikkel Broch Alvik

Before I talk about this video itself, I have some requests that you could do. Tatu (the Australian group, not the Russian duo). IDK how easy it would be since they seem pretty obscure but it would be pretty cool if you are able to make a video about them. Another one would be R Angels who also had a song associated to a movie that made no sense, much like M2M. So back to the video…I'm a big, ecstatic M2M, Marion, and Marit fan, and I’ve been actively following their solo careers for over 15 years at this point. And the timing of me coming across this video is kind of a coincidence because lately I've been thinking about what a well-researched M2M documentary should have. As far as I'm aware of, there's two other videos about M2M on KZbin, and unfornately, I didn't think they were well researched or even hit the most basic information that weren’t just Wikipedia or that one clip of Marit talking about a M2M reunion... So, I do want to say that I think your video is very well researched and went above, and you said a lot of points that I’ve thought about for years. It hits most of the important things that a great M2M documentary should have, and I've actually learned a bit from this video too (for instance, I would have not been able to theorize why their voices were so heavily edited in Shades of Purple. I don’t know why I didn’t even consider that before. v-v). But I do have some tiny, nitpicky details that I wanted to bring up that was mentioned in this video. -@6:22 Marion said this. :) -@28:44 The order is not entirely accurate. Marion got a phone call when she was in Los Angeles in regards to if she wanted to join X Factor, and that caused the transition from being in the US to back to Norway. -@38:47 This was on September 17, 2014 at Wimp Music party, about three weeks after Marit made her response to the Scratching the Surface essay. -In regards to @38:16, that is a good point to bring up the 2020 Taylor Swift Instagram story, and I would use this too as one of the points to debunk people’s assumptions. But to be honest, one didn’t need to look that far. In that very same 2015 interview, the interviewer asked Marit if the friendship is still on, and Marit said yes it is (which unfornately didn't get the chance to potentially be expanded upon because the interviewer very quickly talks about them being in a competition). On a side tangent, the isolated clip that BitAurora uploaded to KZbin has unfornately caused people to not listen to the full interview, so people just watch that clip and assume that means Marit wants nothing to do with her, etc. It's very frustrating when that clip has 105K views while the original video only has 12K at the time of this comment (which I get it, most people don’t want to sit through a whole interview and they want to watch what they’re interested in). As much as I think it was so important to hear it from Marit herself, I really wished that person did not uploaded it by itself because it is already hard as it is to educate people. v-v Anyways, I never know how I sound via text since you can’t hear the other person’s tone or see their expressions, but I hope my comment doesn’t sound mean. I just have a lot of thoughts about them and can probably make a two-hour long video if I really wanted to, lol. But yeah, this is a very solid video. :p

Sorry it took me a while to write back. I saw that it was long so I wanted to make sure I was totally free to take it all in. Thank you for the critiques. Didn't come off mean at all. You are clearly a fan who cares about them and I love that. I usually get DMs from the superfans that wanna touchbase after my videos drop, and its a fun byproduct of covering these groups ❤ I'm just happy these fandoms still exist. I also noticed short videos about them that didnt really do the duo justice. A fan like you noticing the research I put in is the biggest compliment ever. As for the BitAurora clip. It sucks that people gravitate to the preceived drama of it all 🙄 unfotunately the way of the world.
