I did the exact same with same specs. Love it. But it comes with OS Ventura installed, not Sonoma. It’s a big improvement over the intel imac.

@@BruunMedia the only mistake I made is that I didn’t order the keyboard with the numeric keypad on the end.I went with the standard with Touch ID.Too late to change now,it’s in transit.Never mind.

The orange of this iMac looks to me a lot like pink. Except the back of the iMac itself. That looks indeed red.

I’ve used Samsung and Crucial external SSDs with no problems. Plenty of KZbin videos on how to set up the SSD.

I highly advise against getting 8gb or 256gb for a long term computer. 16/512 is minimum for a computer always

For professional work, yes. The current Microsoft CEO has made O365 very friendly for MacOS. 80% of the things that can be done on Windows can be done on MacOS natively. Only Teams, Excel Macros, Power BI, and SolidWorks are still Windows exclusive or high performing on Windows only. Other things like programming in Java, JavaScript, and Python can easily be done on a MacOS. For home use depends. Middle school kids are fine with 8GB of RAM. High school kids or college students, 16GB of RAM with external storage is a better choice. Also, factor in college majors. Some engineering/business/economics programs only use Windows exclusive software, so those students will struggle with iMacs due to system compatibility issues.

I use 8gb daily and have never found it an issue. I have the apple studio display so if I felt the 8gb was restricting, I would have upgraded 😀. I will say though, this imac is designed to be used as a family computer that can do much more. But a family computer first. If the much more is what you’re interested in, please keep in mind that the 24inch screen size is very restricting.

Excellent review, well narrated...an accessory to owner-add, imo, is a 14-1 hub, which will take care of any retro devizes one may a have. Pity there's no vertical adjustment; but I can see why Apple demurred on that....Apple Rules OK!

Good video mate , I actually like a lot about the iMac and would have bought one when the first M1 came out , but the monitor is a bit small, no doubt some people would be happy with it at 23.9 inches , but if apple had offered the package with a second option with a bigger screen, I reckon the sales would have been much better.

Storage needs to be thought of differently than we have... with all the new tech AI in the future, all will grow in size just as they have forever. By first PC was 'the big one' as the salesman said formy 300MB HP in 1995. Next was the gigabytes. Now you MUST THINK TERABYTES ❤

I currently am still using my 2011 iMac and think it is on its last breath. Plan to upgrade in the very near future but can't decide between the mac mini m2 with a studio display or this new iMac M3. Don't know if the mini/studio display option is worth the extra money. I do feel like having the bigger screen would be nice. Any advice?

If Price isn't a factor, then the studio with the display is a better buy. I am in the same boat as you and ended up going the iMac route because I don't like having things separate and I wasn't going to pay that price for the studio display.

If only It’d be a good value. For the price of 16/512 (and that’s the real base model that anyone should consider, because I’m sorry 8/256 is a joke) you can get a decent MacBook Pro M3 and have some money left or even get an M3 Pro. The only saving grace of this iMac is the variety of colors, but that’s not enough to justify the price…

I mean for an office or home user it could make sense for certain users. It’s not anywhere near a deal for a “tech enthusiast”, but then again why not build a pc if you’re a tech enthusiast? And if you are set on a Mac desktop the M2 Pro Mac Mini is still a much better deal, with more ports, and you get whatever displays you want, up to three. Ultimately these iMacs are clearly for consumers who value convenience over functionality, and who value ascetics over performance. For a grandma or a family computer or a stay at home mom, this is probably fine. But it’s not really ever meant to be the “best deal”. It’s definitely about convenience.

I use to like Apple from 2006 to now 2023. But overall I just don't like Apple anymore. Apple over-prices there Mac computers big time. They over-price there add on accessories as well. $200 to upgrade ram or SSD is really bad as well compared to how low PC manufacures are on small upgrades. I also hate how Apple has all there parts glued together now onto the motherboard. You can't upgrade a Mac anymore. I've watched Lous Rossmann a lot and seen also that Apple way over charges for fixes to there Macs as well. I was going to buy a new Mac and I went over it for 3 whole days. But I finally realized a lot of things I don't like about Mac. It's over-priced, over-charges for fixes, $200 for upgrades, the interface I don't like as I always adjusted it to work like Windows. Overall I just can't get a Mac again.

Most other mfgs charge $100+ for upgrades and most don't even allow you to customize much anymore. For example neither dell nor HP allows you to get more than 64 gb of ram, period. At least apple gives you the choice. Also it isnt glued to the motherboard. Its a system on a chip, thats what gives the M chips its extreme speed and huge video memory. Everything has a sacrifice.

It does on the monitor, but not on the keyboard/mouse/trackpad. Not big deal for the keyboard and trackpad because it is on the back. The mouse it is on the bottom and makes it completely useless while charging. To add insult to injury, Apple charges $50 to get the trackpad knowing it is easy to use while charging. Apple tax strikes again.
