I am currently deciding between Macbook Air 13" M1 16GB 512GB, Macbook Pro 14" M1 16GB 512GB and Macbook Pro M2 16GB 512GB. I want to edit in Davinci Resolve (Red Raw 5K, BRAW 6K and 4K H256). The Air might be too weak for that even with proxies.

Absolutely, I picked up an M1 Pro 10c 16GB/1TB for about 1500USD a few months ago (before the M3 launch) It's a beast. M1 pro owners shouldn't upgrade to M3 unless they feel their workflow is being affected and if they really don't think 3k USD is a lot of money. These things can last a long time, it'll be a while until I upgrade. It's worth it for those using much older intel macbooks (even then, buying an MBP 14 / 16 is insane value for money) especially with Black Friday deals / refurbed

My wife and brother have the M1 and M2 Pros for their jobs. It gets the job done because the work isn't too time urgent and their workload hasn't increased enough to validate the new M3 Pro or M3 Max additional performance gains. However, it is an excellent hardware and good software for the professions that need them. AWS machine learning, professional video/photo editors, DJs, Java backend developers, JavaScript front-end developers, and UX/UI experts.

I have the M1 Pro and tried out the M3 Pro. Ended up returning the M3 Pro. The M1 is more than enough for me for my workflow. I'll wait a couple years for maybe a design change. The Space Black ISSSSSSS nice tho!

I'm glad you made this video. I had a hard time choosing with MBP 14 M3 to buy, but the steep price (in CAD $) made me thing twice. The MPB 14 M3 Pro 16/512 is $2699 CAD. I just found a pristine MBP 14 16/512 M1 Pro for $1500 CAD slightly used. I'm gonna jump. First Macbook in my half century life. Coming for the PC/Windows world. Will start editing photos and editing videos. If I ever need more, I'll upgrade.

I upgraded to the 14in M3 Max (14 CPU, 30 GPU, 36GB RAM, 1TB SSD) from a base model 2018 Intel Macbook Pro Touch Bar. It got to the point where my fans were ramping up while just browsing the web and screen mirroring content. I am excited I did though. I always felt that macbook was holding me back performance wise. Video editing on it was slow and inefficient (crashed a lot or space issues). Its nice have a computer that doesn't cook your legs while performing basic or PRO tasks. I also used some discounts to lower the price while trading in my older macbook as well. Apple gave me $310 for the macbook, and my student discount brought the price down from $3199 to $2899. Out the door price was $2802.59

@@MT-eb2dx Bought an Air M1 (8/512) in Feb 2022 for my mobile computing device. Although I already had an i5 12400f + 3060 Ti ITX PC. I'll tell you this. Editing in DaVinci Resolve's timeline is smoother with the Air M1, but exporting/rendering is faster with my PC since it uses the GPU horsepower. But for what an 8GB RAM thin ultrabook can do, it's pretty nuts. Not to mention, the technology is almost 4 years old (this December). I only edit basic 4K from my iPhone and Sony A6100 tho, nothing crazy.

I don’t see apple making their macbook screens oled anytime soon. The miniLED retina xdr display on the macbook pro’s is just amazing. With it’s 218ppi and really great blacks, the difference with oled is barely noticeable. MiniLED is also much more power efficient and OLED has higher chance of burning into screen.

There is nothing superior about OLED. MiniLED works great on macOS, it's brighter, gets dark where it matters and there is no burn-in which 100% awaits you (only delusional people think it doesn't happen, it's coming within a year, I say that as an owner of an AW3423DWF). OLEDs would reduce Apple's resale value, which is something they'll never allow.

but OLED can hardly get that brightness of 1000 - 1600 nits like on the Pro series now, and if it can, it's gonna be shit for the battery life. i think if people had to choose, they would go for the one that's brighter, not the one that can produce true black. Color accuracy wise Apple's been doing great on all of the macbook, pro or air, so I dont think they have to use OLED for that. Maybe if they can get the new QD OLED tech from samsung, otherwise I dont think regular OLED panels are good enough for Apple. BTW they're pushing for microLEDs and I think they'd rather wait for that than use OLED.

It is nice getting into a new space when you can set everything up from scratch. I upgraded from a 13” m1 to a 16” m2 pro earlier this year just for the screen and didn’t notice much of a difference. Next time I’d upgrade would maybe be for more storage built in. I’d like 8tb but I see it’s now only available if you buy the m3max which is a bummer.

Apple puts such a premium on storage. I mainly work off tb4 nvme external drives so I usually don’t care too much drive space. But 1tb-2tb is a sweet spot

I have a love-hate relationship with my M1 Pro 16 in. I do love using the display, but it's so heavy and cumbersome to carry around everywhere. I've been going back and forth on whether I should just trade it in for an M3 Pro 14-in. If the M3 Pro 14-in performs better then I would most definitely trade it in, but I haven't seen anyone do a real life benchmark test.

Please your honest advice. Your opinion is very important for me because i love what you do and respect a lot. I am professional food photographer so finally first time in my life i consider to buy Apple product but i am confused i do not know what to choose because on windows machine you can upgrade later Ram or SSD but here you have to be sure what you are choosing. So usually in a week i do maximum 3 photoshoot and each time plus/minus 24mp 300 RAW files uploading to lightroom so not that much heavy work and also do not do any creazy 30 layer photoshop edit. Your advice what canfiguration to choose ? 16GB/512GB enough or 32/512? usually i like to keep open photoshop and lightroom together.

I have an M1 pro with 16gb of ram which is what 2 years now, I think 16gb was plenty for everything except adobe, running lightroom and photoshop together, while having perhaps 8-10 google pages open along with SSD connected and iphone and various other peripherals, 16gb is showing its age, so I think I will move to the M3 max, 36gb ram, 1tb storage and that should handle anything I throw at it. I dont really do video and if I do its he odd single stream so the M3 is more then capable

To be honest, when comparing the M1 Pro, M2 Pro & M3 Pro, the 1 & 2 both with 32gb of ram, the M3 Pro with 36gb of ram & all with 1tb ssd, they are all solid devices. But what I found very noticeable with the M3 Pro, it seemed to have no latency at all when doing basic tasks, which I found very impressive. But probably besides that doesn’t make a whole lot of difference in real world performance.

m3 pro can handle 4K video like butter. If you are doing a lot of effects and working with bigger projects. Higher resolution video 6k-8k it’s probably best to get m3 max.

Screens are the same. Battery life is like 10-15% better in the m3 pro if you are doing more intensive tasks. If you are just doing web browsing they are about the same

Upgrading from an M1 MacBook Air. I use my laptop mostly for Apple Pages, Numbers, Video Consumption, Light Gaming (Indie Puzzle Games), and programming, (Python, Javascript). I am only learning programming as a hoppy and it is not the main thing that I use my laptop for. The main reason I am upgrading is quite frankly the 120hz ProMotion display. With these use-cases in mind, is it worth it to go for an M2 Pro/alternatively base M3 chip MacBook Pro, or am I better off saving some money and getting an M1 MacBook Pro? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I'm going to get the M1 Pro. The differences are only on paper, but if you're a gamer, get the M3 Pro or M3 because they're better for AAA games. The MacBook Pro M3 Pro and m3 have ray tracing, so the choice is yours. If you want it for heavy work to hard work , I think the MacBook Pro M1 Pro is a monster . If you just want it for the 120 Hz display, I don't think it's worth spending $2000 or $1000 more for some improvements in the CPU. So, in my opinion, get the M1 Pro. Again, the choice is yours, And really, the M1 Pro is still a monster even in 2024, and I think it will be until 2028 or 2030. I hope this helps you.

I have a MacBook Pro M1 Pro with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. It's great for programming, can handle everything. I even trained some neural networks and reinforcement learning algorithms on it. The screen is amazing, the sound quality as well.

If you choose any Mac forget 16GB of RAM. Today's WEB sites with video and photos can consume 1GB of RAM ! The big resolution screen consume a lot of RAM too. Lower processor but more and more RAM this is the solution if you want save money. Look at all benchmarks , always wins Mac with more RAM. Of course if you considering play games you will need more and more RAM.

I played them side by side for my own tests. Didn’t film it but they sounded near identical in terms of volume. The M1 Pro had more mids and the M3 Pro had more high end. But they both have awesome speakers and not any real reasons to chose one over the other

guys what do you think I currently only have lenovo intel laptop and desperately in need of a new one for video editing. in this case, do I get a m1 pro one for ~1500 dollars in my country or m3 pro for ~2100 dollars? considering that it's going to be my only device. the price difference throws me off a little bit

The M1 Pro, for sure. They're more or less the same thing. The difference isn't large enough to warrant an extra 600 dollars. You're better off saving that money or using it for something else.

I am wondering about this. The new M3 Pro 16 cost 111% more than a new M1 Pro 16(Black Friday offer), both 16gb/512gb in my country. I've been a happy Intel MBP 16" Intel 2019 user, but there have been some minor problems upgrading to Sonoma. Since Apple still sells the new entry level MB Air 13" they will probably support the MBP M1 2021 for 5+ years?

only 11% more and you'd get the latest so why not? People's been talking about how the M1 Pro will soon get slower with future updates so if you can buy the M3 Pro, just buy it. 11% more money for at least 2 - 4 more years of use is a good deal. Newer software will be optimized for newer hardware so it's a normal thing for the older macbooks to be slower overtime. At least that's what some people are saying.

for serious VFX an RTX 3080\90 or the newer models will smoke anything mac can do. will still be better then even the m3 ultra. its not just about Ray Tracing that apple is still lagging behind , its mainly that the industry has come to reley on CUDA cores. the apple AI chip still isn't there and company's don't seem eager to waste resources on development for it when its so lagging behind .. or just because of bad relations with apple. Sofware developed for previous rtx cards still works on the newer ones.. apple advantage is in laptops where you can do so much of the work pre vfx with ease and no noise ..

I'm on M2 MAX. It's handling all my Pro Video workflow (and gaming) like it's nothing. I will wait awhile before I upgrade. These systems are too powerful and are going to remain that way for the next 10 years.

Please advise me of which one would be decent enough for video editing. I am window at the moment, but I wanted to switch to Mac, as most of the videos I shot were HEVC, H.265. Would M3 pro be enough? And do I need to get 1tb faster, ssd, or 512 would be okay? I am open to suggestions, whether Mac mini, studio, or macbook. It would be just editing a few videos for my decorating business documentation of the work process, nothing fancy or any effects, etc.

​@@hassanahmed1755 You're going to want a laptop. The M series of chips supercharged Apple's mobile computers to perform just like their desktop counterparts. They are all elegantly packaged for you get to bring with you anywhere you want. For 2024, do not buy any computer with less than 1TB of storage space. I recommend M2 Pro or M3 Pro. Either one will be plenty powerful for you.

It should be very solid. From what I hear, premiere has gotten very optimized for apple silicon. It wasn’t when I use to edit in premiere. (That’s why I switched to resolve) but my other KZbinr friends still editing in premiere say it’s awesome now!
