M340i Active Grille Delete

I couldn't stand looking at the active grille anymore. IMO it's pointless for a modified car. This method is supposed to work without triggering CEL but unfortunately it did. No luck with deleting through bm3 so currently trying to code it out. Overall car looks a lot better & should help the IAT's a bit!

Love the active grille. Warms up super fast so I can drive aggressive, and protects the radiator. Aerodynamics and mpgs are a bonus.

To ge rid of the check engine light you need to re-adjust the flap holder stick into position. When its out pf position it opens or closes way too much thats why you get the check engine light. WHEN ITS IN THE RIGHT POSITION IT HAS A STOP LIMIT TO OPEN AND CLOSE.

create tension on the grill try and cut a little rubber band or use something elastics and tie it to the motor and then to somewhere tucked away but the will have tension the motor will pull against the band thinking it’s moving the arms. Has to work i go to enginnering school for this 😂

How’s that check engine light working for you 😂. The light won’t hurt your vehicle but people need to understand that if you do this you will have one. I have a x5 M50i with the active delete and a full x5M grill and I have an engine light. Got rid of it through bimmer link but it comes back. Also did the v bars with blue covers and looks freaking awesome with the blue in my laser lights.

If you do find how to tune it out, please let us know. Even with the active grill removed, once that actuator goes out you'll still get that check engine. And they go out fast man. My x7 has 40k miles and it's already out

Modding your car to make it run worse. There's a huge opening in the bumper that gives the car all the air it needs. All you did was make it less aerodynamic. Heat exchangers are more efficient than intercoolers.

Very helpful video! Last week someone slammed on their breaks in front of me and my grille & active air intake bars broke. I haven’t removed the grille yet to see if I need to replace the whole piece where the active intake bars are or like you did just remove them. My check engine light came on about 30 minutes after driving though….. hopefully I can do this method 🤞🏼

@@Lurkin2one8 I know how it works I’m a bmw tech. I agree I hate the design of the radiator flaps altogether. It was made to combat people who run their cars outside to warm them up. But if he would have left the top and bottom runners that the flaps attach to and not cut the motor arms that connect to the runners and just cut the flaps itself I think he would have been fine. The motor needs to identify the end positions of fully open and fully closed. With no arms or anything attached it will continuously spin and when it can’t find a stop position it will tell the dme that it is either stuck open or stuck closed or the position reading is implausible

Yea its not really needed cuz you have a hood with a vent in it, it would matter more if you had the oem hood still cuz the air would be trapped in the engine bay
