30 year Porsche/BMW tech here. Ive run into several M52/54s with low compression. usually around 50psi. These engines dont like to sit for long periods of time. Oil seeps past the rings.. When you try to start it, the fuel injectors wash down what little oil remains. The fix is to pour a bit of oil down each cylinder, crank it with the plugs out for 5 - 10 seconds. Take the car outside, fire it up and let it run til it stops smoking. 80% of the time it fixes the problem.

Would've been interesting to see if you could have let the cylinders soak in seafoam or similar for a few days. Sometimes you can restore compression this way

I bought an M52 the other day. No compression. Sounded like the crank was only spinning. Soaked the rings in ATF for a few hours. She fired right up, been running good ever since

Fantastic work and a really great vid!!! You make it look so easy to disassemble. How long would it take you to get the motor out if you worked on it non-stop? You seem to have done it before, and I have noticed with mine (E93 Convertible N51 engine) that the more I work on it, the faster I get at complicated jobs, like Valve Cover Replacements. But really, how long would it take you to remove an engine start to stop?

I came up with an idea of self service mahine, like an atm , where any time of the day you could suck out old oil and pump in new oil Please dont ask me about oil filtwrs, that would be a great system of self service oil change every 8000km, to make sure that this what we see in this video does not happen it would be 100 percent recyclable oil distribution omitting mechanics, like amazon for shell or BP or Texaco.. someone contact me with the right person and we can put this machine on most petrol stations in USA,refuel your car, wash your car yourself and change oil more frequently.. oilfilter Usualy accessible from top noweadays anyway
