Well it didn't hurt Apple gave you $300.00 trade in on an old 2020 model M1 Mac Mini with 16gb.. So I used that money to up the Memory and 10GB port...As I do use an external RAID SSD drive. So I do expect my external drive to work faster. If it ever gets here.... As it seems Apple can't keep these in stock.

I bought the base Mini and I love the performance of the M4, it's a beast! I added an OFC 1M2 external Thunderbolt 4 enclosure with a Crucial 4TB ssd drive to fix the real problem of avoiding Apple's insane upgrade pricing. Thankfully they included 16GB this time out so no real need to upgrade it, I couldn't agree more with you on that one Noah. This is my first desktop Mac in over 15 years, I'm so happy they did this, it's the best desktop of the year for sure 👍🏼

I’ve had my base model since the 8th and it more than meets my modest needs. I already had all of the peripherals, including a 2TB external NVME drive, and setup was easy-peasy. I’m very happy with it.

$499 at Costco for base model
@john_hindАй бұрын
It is insanely good value so long as you can make do with the base spec.! As soon as you start checking boxes the value proposition is immediately blown out of the water, and the base SSD in particular is pretty tight! If you can make do with the $599 machine, anything from M1 onward is probably just as adequate, particularly if it has more RAM and/or SSD.

I think I’m going to get one to replace my base M1 mini. The M1 is just fine for Lightroom but a little more speed wouldn’t hurt.

I enjoy the Mac Mini M4, it is fast and easy to use. However, if you have the money, go for the M4 Pro Mac Mini, it is a night and day difference from the Base M4 Mini.

I have the 2017 iMac and it looks gorgeous but is underwhealming with the Intel CPU. I have ordered the M4 Pro. Yes, I don’t need it but I’m still remembering the HP Pavillion in 2000 and swore I’ll never again buy a PC built to a price. Over the years I built my own to excess capacity and love benchmarking and tweeking. I know I can’t tweek this one. In Australia, the M4 Pro costs double at $2800. With 1TB.
@bennym1956Ай бұрын
Agree with the Mac Mini Pro, I would pay for extra RAM as you can't upgrade it yourself. Extra Internal storage from Apple..nope, nope and nope !! Buy external SSD storage - cheaper.

Should I buy the M4 Mac mini with the m4 16gb 512gb or m4 pro 24gb 512gb for my use case? And do I need 1tb or 512gb is good enough? I need it for beginners photo and video editing, programming, web browsing, watching KZbin videos, listening to music and podcasts with high quality audio interface and headphones amp.

I got a pro just to not feel is going to fail. Base model. Storage I have like 10tb of portable so I won't worry about it
@odyssvyАй бұрын
I’ve been thinking of the same but the 512 has faster speeds since the Mac has two 256 chips rather than the base 256 but split into 128 chips. I’ve also seen KZbinrs downloading alll their software and only have 40gbs remaining in the 256. If you can, get the 512 and buy a thunderbolt enclosure for m.2 ssds and use that for more storage. Amazon is selling it rn for 50 dollars cheaper.

If Apple would find a way that you could use your old 27" iMac's display, I'd get one in a minute. But to have to buy either an outrageously expensive Apple pro 27" monitor or settle for some lesser quality screen, makes the cost way too much. i hate that Apple discontinued the 27" size new iMac. I will use mine I guess, until it dies.

When comparing the M4 base Mac Mini to other mini-PCs, there have been other mini-PCs that small. Just none with the CPU monstrous performance at that price. - Minisforum EliteMini Ai370 outperforms it, but costs $1099. - Beelink SER9 outperforms it, but it costs $989. - Geekom A8 is a good value at $700, but the CPU doesn't compete with the regular M4 Mac Mini.

The two ports on the front are USB-C, but they share a 10 Gbps bus, which is just another stupid, stupid design decision so Apple can eke out a tiny bit of extra profit at the customer’s expense.
