I think I'll be moving to the Mac mini M4 Pro from my current MacBook Air M1 (that I use exclusively at home hooked to an Apple Studio Display) ... just waiting on the final performance benchmarks to see but I think the jump should be huge for me in Davinci Resolve, Lightroom, Photoshop, and Pixinsight (Astronomy editing software).

Why? Only true Pro users might really benefit from WiFi 7 and for them, enteprise-grade manufacturer have barely started selling their first high-end, most expensive, WiFi 7 Access Points. That’s the reality. Anything else is playing who’s got the biggest.

If your employer can cover the cost for it and you work remotely, get the M4 Pro Mac mini. The M4 chip, 24GB RAM at base, and the new iGPU are amazing. External storage should handle the SSD storage.

How do you know which monitors work with the Mini M4? One person says one thing, and the other person states the opposite. Would be best if Apple had some sort of recommendation list. With the Apple scaling method they simply do not render fonts well on all monitor and resolutions. This is one way an iMac is a safer buy.

This is cool now a Mac Studio Mini getting the Studio cooling design and ports including Ethernet. I don't need one now, but in about a year I'll be ready to replace my old 27" iMac and this new Mac Mini will be great replacement.

I bought the ace magician 3x3 inch mini pc with 12 gigs of ram and a 256 drive. I immediately put linux mint 22 on it and its fast and runs like a dream. Not meant for gaming though it does support steam and I've been playing some of my non intensive games. Paid $125 after coupon.

The M4 base option is a definition of value offer which Apple sadly fails to do in the portable devices. Having said that whatever M processor someone might use it is easily a 10 years lifetime device for the majority of the customer base.

Thunderbolt 5 (M4 Pro) supports native DP2.1. Would you do a review of 2 displays with: 1 USB-C (thunderbolt 5) connected to a display with DP2.1 UHBR20? and 2nd display with another USB-C (with alt mode) or HDMI? I see the value of Thunderbolt 5 in supporting future DP2.1 UHBR20.

Love it, but not real happy about the power switch being on the bottom IN THE rear of the unit. Not thrilled with the line level audio jack being on the front either. BUT a 1T/16G system HAD cost 1200 but now is 1,000.

@@uptowndoof3993 exactly lol. Like fr real the Pro chip-equipped Mac mini never made sense to me. Like you can get 2 lower spec models and have 512GB of storage total + 32GB across both, and use both side by side with Universal Control for real multitasking; or have only one, with just 24GB of RAM, not 32; and 512GB which seems rather low for the price. The upgrades are just way too expensive to the point of going over double the initial cost. Thunderbolt 5 is really neat, but we won't be seeing devices that take advantage of that bandwith for a long time apart from high resolution, high refresh rate displays that macOS can't even properly support a good chunk of the time.

My M2 Mac mini is fine and will be fine for several more years. No need to upgrade til at least the M7. I still use a 2018 Mini as a media server running Sonoma using Open Core Legacy Patcher. I know you need to hype the new stuff to get views but most people using a M1 or M2 Mini do not need to upgrade.

I’m not buying until I see some real world tests. If you max out the memory with the M4 Pro processor, I don’t see how that little fan will be able to keep the power supply and all the silicon cool. The enclosure should be larger. It should have an additional thunderbolt port on the back and front plus a SD card slot on the front. With a larger enclosure, there would have been room for the on/off switch on the back instead of on the bottom in the back!

Dude… what about graphic design? Video editing? The fact that with the iMac you have an all-in-one rocket ship is what makes the iMac actually valuable!!!… also, why the hell would some one prefer to transport a Mac Mini and a monitor separated plus all the cables and keyboard and mouse when you just grab your iMac and move on?… the only REAL problema with the iMac lineup TODAY is that Apple, GOD KNOWS WHY, Doen’t give the PRO and MAX or even the ULTRA M chip versions to the iMac!… the problem is just relying on the base M4 chip and payijg more for more RAM and SSD storage. The worst performing Apple silicon Mac is the base level M2 Mac Mini with only a 256 Gb SSD and 8 Gb or RAM. This is because whereas the base level M1 and M3 Apple Silicon Macs implement 256 Gb of flash memory using two 128 Gb flash modules, the M2 implements the 256 Gb using only a single flash module. This means that SSD read and write speeds are limited to how much can be read and written to a single flash module. All other Apple Silicon Macs can read and write to two flash modules simultaneously. I would really like to know is whether an M4 Mac Mini with a 256 Gb SSD has one or two flash modules. My guess is that Apple have learned their lesson and it will have two 128 Gb flash modules which will make it a very good Mac to buy. I do not believe that adding external SSDs improves the performance of an Apple Silicon Mac. This is because a lot of important parts of MacOS such as the swap file needs to be on the fastest possible internal SSD.

I am really disappointed there are only 3 usb-c in the back and not at least 4. I have SIX usb ports on the back of my mac mini m2 pro. If they would of had 4 usb-c in the back then I would be JUST ENOUGh and I'd barely be okay. If I do get this mac mini m4, then I'll have a cable coming out the front which will look BUTT UGLY unlike my m2 pro.

Base is thrash compared to the Pro. Future-proof your ports with the Thunderbolt 5. Go Pro with the extras: 10gb port 1tb SSD 24gb RAM add extra GPU $1749 + tax 10gb port 1tb SSD 48gb RAM add extra GPU $2109 + tax You can add the Apple Studio Display for $1300 or less, and you got the "iMac Pro". Less than $3k for an incredible desktop Mac.

Most people don't need the Pro version. Saving money by getting M4 Mac Mini with 24GB of RAM and 1 TB of external storage works out better. $890 should pay for that, including a $20 dongle for any missing ports.

Thunderbolt is a Type C port with higher standard for data transfer speeds. The floor for Thunderbolt 4 is 32 Gb/s and the ceiling is 40 Gb/s. Thunderbolt 5 has a range between 80 Gb/s to 120Gb/s. Regular gen 4 Type C port has a floor of 10 Gb/s and a ceiling of 40 Gb/s.
