the added weight of the convertible was and has always been way overblown by all the coupe purists out there. this car is 90% as fast as the coupe and you can drop the top. i love mine!

For someone that loves the convertible experience but wants one car that can do almost anything, the F83 is almost in a league of its own.

Would have loved a bit of street feedback, but this was great. I absolutely love my F80 6speed, but think I might get a daily and while I initially I was thinking another Miata, Corvette or 911 as my fun far, I keep coming back to just keeping mine. I might even switch to a F83, although I hate the extra 400lbs. If I’m lucky I will get 3 track days in a a year, so do I really care or should I. I have 3 kids at home, so that’s part of the appeal over the Miata or Corvette.

Thanks! Working on a street focused review of this exact F83 now actually. (Waiting for the brakes to be refreshed) If you like the idea of a convertible that doubles as a “normal” daily driver then F83 is spectacular. Given that you’ve owned an F80 though, you may really notice the weight/rigidity differences.

I'm surprised these convertibles are even allowed on the track. Nearly all organizations require a roll bar or you can't be permitted in.

Very track dependent, some are very loose with requirements and others only require factory rollover protection. Like in the case of my Z4M the factory roll hoops and A pillars are rated to support the weight of the car. The F83 has the pop up bars, which depending on the track, are counted as factory roll protection. That’s at least my experience at my local tracks.
