Buckle up, folks! This is about to be the most detailed S62 tear-down KZbin has ever seen-73 glorious minutes of engine bliss! Grab a cold beer (or maybe two), get comfy, and prepare to be dazzled by every bolt, gasket, and questionable life choice that led us here. It’s basically a feature film for gearheads…but with more grease and fewer happy endings. 😂

Nice disassembly of the damaged M5 engine. Good job as always! Sreten, one kind reminder: when you zinc plating bolts, bear in mind that 10.9 and 12.9 bolts are not suitable for zinc plating due to Hydrogen embrittlement, so please consult with your plating shop about it. Hydrogen from acids can enter the crystal structure of those high-tensile-class materials and to simplify it, cause "rust" around the crystal borders, meaning they can snap at any time under tension. There is a heat treatment for 10.9 bolts that lowers the likeliness of breaking zinc-plated ones but that is not 100% insurance. Those high tensile class bolts (10.9 and 12.9) are usually zinc flake coated. I know how particular you can be so just want to add my two cents; keep up the good work!
@TheShred897 сағат бұрын
You can have them de embrittled shortly after plating to negate this. We often have this done on high tensile materials >1000n/mm² that need plating.

Enjoying the content, as always. Plus, e39 is one of the greatest of all times for me. Just one remark. Thrust side and non thrust side are in the same plane. Thrust is the one which takes more side force from piston skirt because piston is leaning against it during combustion (as a result of cranktrain design).

Before you, I was a big BMW fan but stuck to simpler models (mostly E36 and E46) but you inspired me to truly appreciate the classic golden era of BMW. Because of you I was inspired and comfortable enough to get an E38 750iL like Project Dubai. And not only that, but comfortable and confident enough to work on such a complex car like an M73 E38. Thank you again so much for the amazing content.
