Crying shame about the bridge. I remember the authorities trying to blow up the viaduct not too far away in Bolton. The viaduct was massive and carried over the Manchester Bolton and Bury canal over the village of Darcy Lever, just outside Bolton. Perhaps 10 years or so before this was made. All day they tried , and just a few bricks came out. Ended up with nothing short of bombs to get rid. Like the bridge here, 200 years old and going nowhere without a fight. Great vid.

That brings back memories ! I drove a Scammell tipper for Buckton Contractors back in 1979-80 and tipped 1000's of tons of hardcore on the Barden Lane / Gannow Top section of the M65. The hardcore came from the old Catlow Fold quarry at the top of Barkerhouse Road.

I shared this with my mate Birty, a Brierfielder like me, and his comments are below, I spotted a young PC Brian Foley walking up the hill 4M 57Secs into the video... Three things to say about the video. 1. Katherine Sumner-Clough, the bizarre old lady opening the Motorway, lived up Halifax Road, across from McCarthy’s Paper Shop, in some cottages (with a garage - must've been posh). She gave me a fiver once for cleaning her car for the cub's "bob a job week". This was ten times more than any other donation. First small world moment. 2.A bearded engineer on the scheme, shuffling around in the background looking enigmatic (as we engineer's tend to do), is my old site boss from my day's building the M1/A1 Link road for Babtie's in Leeds circa 1998. He once told me Quaker Bridge was a nightmare to build near and he created the ice cream van layby on the nick of Pendle cos they had some concrete left so poured it at the side of the road, creating said spot. 3. The excavator driver working on the canal bridge at B&Q is a guy I have worked with for the last four years, building a golf course in Bolton. It all looked a bit more primitive and innocent back then....

That bridge would have still been there a thousand years later..! What a pity! Still, all in the name of progress, what year was this..? Liked

Brilliant footage. Have you any more showing any other quarry tippers? I loved seeing the old Tilcon Foden S83 with a load of chatter on.

Hi Thankyou for viewing the film and glad you enjoyed it. I'm afraid I don't have any further footage on the construction equipment being used other than you can see on this film. Best regards Howard.
