Great question, quite simple really he adjusted his game to cover the fact that he couldn't move that well. While his quick pivot was a strength it also was his biggest weakness. Now he's not relying on that pivot anymore which makes him quite dangerous!

Determination! Ma Long has great determination which he shown On the way to this victory. Be it after his recovery fr his knee surgery or competing in the games. Really admired his strong will, especially at the age where it's considered 'old' for the sport. Kudos to ML. 💪👍🏻

To be honest LJK could have won this match if he was a bit more consistent with his shots. He had a great game plan and when he excecuted it properly it forced mistakes in ma long and also opened up 'loop holes' in his game for example ma long to me is a mid to close range player isn't that great at reacting to variations in play i.e slowing down shots, not so fast pace, random loops with spins and he also isn't that good from long range. (Compared to xu xin who is a master at this) I respect ma long's consistency but with the right game plan and shot variation I can see him losing (plus he can get flustered and lose his edge)

The influence Harimoto has had on the evolution of Ma Long style of play is very visible here but he does it much better. Amazing speed and power near the table on both sides. He is using the side spin back hand block more and more these days also, the influence of Koki Niwa I guess. Smart players look at what others bring to the table and merge it into their own play and Ma Long is doing this very very well!
