it was because of tactical changes to backhand serve and more mixed playstyle to interrupt the rhythm of LGY since he's better in the fast pace rallies

Why ma long chance the serve?

Don't see any reason why every one is so excited about this. ML did what any couch on the planet would say - can't beat your opponent playing "his" game, break the rhythm, exploit his weakness, surprise. I don't understand why did it take him three games to understand that LGY is faster and more accurate, especially when he is stretched wide from corner to corner; that LGY is waiting, he just wants the ball on his BH so that he could redirect it wide and fast. You and me, we know that LGY is weak under pressure, he has problems on the finishing line. What ML was waiting for so long to go back to text book tactics? It was very obvious that ML was on the brink of a breakdown as well, he made so many desperate shots in "lottery" style, he hit racket on the the table and etc. Really? That's not how champ (and idol for many) supposed to behave. However, he does deserve to win, that is because some one had to win the final. I don't think LGY is ready to be a big champ, simply because he has a big gaping hole in his ability do it, which ML showed us. It was the middle of the match where ML demonstrated how he can disarm LGY playing genius combos. That mean LGY is not ready for the gold with such a defect in his skills set.

Don't say it too early, Ma Long is second seed Olympics ranking while Fan is 6th seed. If Fan clashes out at Saudi smash and Ma enters the final, then the story will be different. Let's wait and see.

@@MrFreezebook21 Ma Long's victory and current form is causing a headache and dilemma for the team officials who will have to decide the two representatives for the Olympics single competition. Prior to this, it is a no brainer and easy decision to go for Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin. Let's see what happens.

@@chinpinhon if Fan is selected to single, he will be most likely to be drawn in the same area of Wang's. That means these teammates need to fight against eachother before the final match, so I don't think China team will make such big risk to choose Fan unless he is able to win Saudi smash champion and make himself a top 2 seed. Furthermore, Fan's frequent injuries is not better than Long's and China team will make the ultimate decision for who's the better one to Olympics single.
