Okay there are some serious flaws with this video. The Cowboys were good in the mid to late 1960s with Don Meredith as QB, not Roger Staubach and were labeled as “Next Year’s Champion” until first Super Bowl victory over Miami in 1972 with Roger as QB. For 29 years the Cowboys had one head coach and two GMs and two Directors of Marketing and three different Directors of Player Development Personnel unlike when Dipstick Jones bought the team. Also in the 1980s up to 1988 the success they had was with Danny White at QB, not Roger who retired. You also disregard the fact that since 1995 the Cowboys have not made it to the NFC Championship Game let alone Super Bowl. You have dipwad idiotic podcasts and KZbin channels claiming Dak is not the problem. Bull crap he is too and so is the Owner who has way too many responsibilities and can’t handle it. The failures of the Cowboys has weaken the hold on Texas to the point that a team in San Antonio or El Paso would probably crush it. This year if Houston makes a decent run in the playoffs; just like last year, and continue to build and get to an AFC championship game before Dallas gets back to an NFC Championship game, the mass exodus will probably take place. The noise for a third and even a fourth franchise in Texas will get louder and louder.

I used to live here in San Antonio during the Saints temporary relocation to the Alamodome...and attended all 3 NFL games there (Bills, Falcons, Lions). Loved the tailgating here in the Alamo City! The energy was ELECTRIC!!! The local community embraced the Saints as our own. Hell, it even rolled off the tongue perfectly (San Antonio Saints) due to the history here with religious monuments of the missions. It takes the culture of this city to want something to call our own. Being a lifelong Detroit sports fan (born & raised Michigander), I can attest that being in a market with a sports team in the 4 majors is HUGE for community bonding. San Antonio with its bustling growth CAN embrace a 3rd NFL team in the Texas market. The question becomes: "Do the people want something of their own after the narcissistic owner up north moves on?" We'll have to cross that bridge when we get there. Until then, bring on Project Marvel to entice The Shield once again. 🏈

As a Houston fan a big problem with it before this year was the fact the Cowboys monopolized almost all of Texas for the game to be aired. I lived 20 minutes South West of Houston area and was restricted from watching the Texans. Only allowed to watch Dallas. I wasn’t allowed to watch it outside of RedZone without a VPN. I moved 2 hours down the coast from Houston and no surprise still couldn’t watch the closest team, Houston. It wasn’t until this 2024 year that I was able to watch the Texans (likely because of the interest they got last year going further than the cowboys in the playoffs). This always frustrated me because the Texans don’t even play at the same time as the Cowboys. If Texas wants a third team they need to break up Dallas’s monopoly over the regions and streaming. At least allow the early games to be watched when Dallas isn’t playing.

Logically thinking, it's not just the cowboys who would be against a team in San Antonio. The Texans and Saints would also be against a team moving directly into their market.smaller market teams most likely would also be against a large market team entering their division. The NFC south would probably see resistance from the Saints and Bucks and the AFC South would probably see resistance from the Colts and Titans because a large market in a die hard football state like Texas provides players a greater chance to make off the field money, making it a more attractive free agent destination than cities like New Orleans, Indianapolis and Nashville. Tampa will still be an attractive free agent destination because it's a beautiful coastal city with good weather other than the hurricane threat, but Tampa probably wouldn't like having to compete with Miami, Atlanta and now San Antonio to be the most attractive free agent destination in the NFC South.

I remember Jerry Jones was publicly really upset when the city of Houston got the expansion team Texans in 2002, because he knew he was losing a market in Houston. The same thing would happen if cities like San Antonio or Austin got their own NFL team, they would abandon the Cowboys just like Houston did. Houston still has a decent sized Cowboys fanbase, but there was a little era there from 1996 to 2002 when Houston had no NFL team after the Oilers left, and the Cowboys and their brand was everywhere in Houston. But Houston and Dallas don't like each other, so everyone knew Houston was going to push for it's own NFL team.

San Antonio would be perfect from a marketing standpoint. It already has the Spurs in the NBA, so the city can sustain a franchise. Put a Mexican/Spanish twist on the franchise, and you can capture not only South Texas, which is millions of people from Brownsville to Laredo to El Paso, but you can also focus on Northern Mexico for marketing. San Antonio is the only Hispanic-majority major metro in the nation, and that is one of the largest growing demographics in the US. Austin is UT country. Leave it be. But San Antonio has more potential than current franchise cities.

@@Damianoutlaw that may be true in the past, but the teams that have been bringing in the ratings are teams in smaller markets like The Chiefs. Giants, Eagles and Commanders aren't bringing in the ratings. The rest of the country doesn't care about those teams

Going by region, yes the Cowboys should play in the NFC South or West, but that will never happen. The league and the networks won't let it happen. This is an advantage the Cowboys have over the Texans, who play in the dismal and boring AFC South versus say playing in the AFC East, North, or West against more high profile teams like the Patriots, Bills, Jets, Steelers, Dolphins, Chiefs, Broncos or Raiders. Instead, the Texans get the Jaguars, Titans, and Colts. When the Oilers were around, they at least had a high profile match up with their division rival Steelers, but that wasn't enough of a national rivalry to keep a new Houston team matched up again with the Steelers.

Actually at one point there were three teams in Texas. In 1960, the NFL expanded to add the Dallas Cowboys, but this happened slightly after the AFL had expanded into Texas. The AFL created two teams, the Dallas Texans and the Houston Oilers. In 1963, the Texans moved to Kansas City and became the Chiefs. And as you said, the Houston Oilers eventually (after the merger and a few decades) moved to Tenessee. Do I think Texas could support a third franchise? Of course. Would an expansion team struggle in Texas? Initially, sure, depending on the ownership. Note that the current ownership of the Dallas Cowboys has done a lot to take the "shine" off the Cowboy's Star. In fact, a new franchise in, say, San Antonio (playing games in the Alamo Dome) might draw fans away from Dallas. And, since Dallas has seen a large influx of people from around the country (and the world), the Cowboys' popularity here is actually somewhat limited. For example, I have a bowling team with 5 members. One is a transplant from Florida that's an Eagles fan. The second is a die-hard Bears fan. The third is from Virginia and is a big Steelers fan, I'm a Cowboys fan (disgruntled), and the last one doesn't follow football at all.

It's been 13 years since Dallas held preseason games in San Antonio; and with the Cowboys last Super Bowl win 30+ years ago, Dallas is losing support in the city. San Antonio has enough fans to go to games (see UTSA, the XFL games, 2005 Saints games, etc); the problem is that SA does not really have enough corporations that could help support a football team AND the Spurs.
