At 11.39, it is possible to add any of the Fuji film simulations to the RAW files in Adobe Camera RAW. In the ACR Basic tab, on the right of the drop-down profile menu, there is an icon that takes you to further profiles. Under Camera Matching, all the Fuji film simulations are available, if your RAW file is a RAF (raw fuji). You can then compare the Fuji film simulations on your RAW file, and use any that please you.

@@MaartenHeilbron hello, thanks to your reviews I have now purchased an XS10. Indeed you can use a dial button to change the aperture on the XF 10-24 in mode A on the lens. I am trying to set the Fn-D dial to change the exposure compensation in M mode, which is the last option of that dial menu. However, the button keeps only changing the film simulation even in M mode. Is there something in the menus that I am missing?
@MaartenHeilbron4 жыл бұрын
@@Edmonotone I'm lost. Which dial are you trying to change? I don't understand the Fn-D Dial. Is it the front or rear dial on the right, or the dial on the left? Then you refer to a button - which button?
@Edmonotone4 жыл бұрын
@@MaartenHeilbron According to the Fujifilm X-S10 manual, the top left dial is called the Fn-D dial. The default setting for that dial is "film simulation". You can change that setting in the SET UP> BUTTON/DIAL SETTING>FUNCTION (Fn) SETTING Menu. When you highlight the Fn-D (Green) dial, the last item on the menu is Fn-D with 3 options: option 1 = DEFAULT, option 2 = DEFAULT with Exposure Compensation (represented by an icon) WHEN SET TO M, and option 3 = NONE. My issue is that when I select option 2 and set the camera on M (manual), and rotate the dial (Fn-D) the camera does not change the exposure but keeps changing the film simulation. I am talking about the Fujifilm X-S10, which you are addressing in the video.
@MaartenHeilbron4 жыл бұрын
Here's the update. And my apologies for not understanding the specifics of this earlier. Now that I have the camera back in my hands - Yes, in the Function Dial setting menu, the dial is indeed called Fn-D, a mention not included in the manual. The manual (p254) is also quite confusing about the options that can be selected. When I set the dial to "EV when set to M", and set the mode dial to M, the icon above the EV graph on the left of the screen changes to indicate that the Fn dial is now the control point and it does, indeed work to change the EV. However, I believe that in addition to manual exposure and aperture, you also have your ISO set manually. Unless you use AutoISO, there is no exposure compensation adjustment. EV is not a fourth exposure adjustment, rather it adjusts one of the three exposure variables (aperture, shutter and ISO) to make its adjustments. When all three are manual, there is no setting that EV can control, and the dial reverts to film simulation selection. I hope this helps.

I recently discovered your channel and it has become one of my favorite camera channels! Amazing content. I’m still undecided if I should get this camera or the a6600. I mainly shoot video with some light photography. On paper, the specs of the X-S10 look amazing but I’m used to the Sony AF. On the other hand, the horrible rolling shutter of the a6600 is making think more of this camera. I’m losing my hair over this. Lol.
@MaartenHeilbron3 жыл бұрын
I feel that either are a good choice. Yes, Sony's focus is better, but the Fujifilm 200 Mbit video data rate is superior. Consider what you are shooting before you either make focus speed or rolling shutter a major factor in your decision. Most video is shot with a constant distance to the subject, and manual focus is the better solution (for either camera). As for rolling shutter, you are unlikely to actually see the effect in typical video work. Only when you pan quickly is it noticeable. Hope this helps.

There are reasons I don't do that. I don't get to review all cameras, and those judgements may change over time - so if in this video I told you that I preferred one model, that may change within weeks when I review another. As my videos are viewed for a long period of time (often 3-5 years) I don't feel that my judgement three years ago would be valid today. As a result, I produce each as a standalone, with the hope that the viewer will make the final decision, based on their needs and preferences.

Very detailed and thorough. 1. How do you find the shutter buttons 1st click and 2nd click tactile feeling compared to something like the XT30? I've seen a couple of reviews where they say it's either a hair trigger or needs a harder push. 2. Do find the power collar easy to turn and turn off/on? I heard it doesn't have a good grip and is a bit hard to turn. 3. Is there enough room between the grip and the 16-80 so the back of your fingers don't touch the lense?

Thanks for the kind words. Good questions - but you really need to hold the camera yourself to make sure that it meets your preferences. 1) I found this a better balance than the X-H1, and about equal to the X-T3, X-T30. It did not inadvertently take images, nor did I find it too hard to get either the soft press or the release. 2) Yes, it's easy, it's exactly right for me. 3) It's very tight, and there is always contact.

Enjoyed watching this really useful review! One question regarding IBIS - is the IBIS on S10 with OIS on lens turned off comparable to a camera without IBIS (say T30 or E4) but with a stabilized. lens (say the 18-55 or 16-50). How much of a difference does this make to videos?

Hello Maarten: I have used your video settings with no problems on the X-S10. Still having issues with the manual mode though: the exposure compensation adjusts automatically. Would you know why? in looking at other reviews, there has been complaints about FujiFilm's menu being complicated. Do you know if the X-T4 is easier since there are more dials? Is it a little more substantial in built also? This is my first mirrorless camera from a Nikon D700. I wanted to go lighter which is why I went towards a APSC camera, also I wanted a camera being close to the size of the old film cameras, such as the Nikon F2, 3, 4.. Yesterday, I called B&H Video, considering returning the X-S10. They had suggested the idea of trying Nikon because the menus are similar. If you have any thoughts, please share.

Thanks from about an hour west of Toronto.
@MaartenHeilbron3 жыл бұрын
The trick to night photography rests primarily with the length of exposure (not longer than about 20s with these lenses - read about the 500 rule ) and your ISO tolerance. Your best investment is a good solid tripod for long exposures. One tip - opening your aperture wide will not provide clear pinpoints of light, the more you can close the aperture, the sharper the stars will be. Either lens is a reasonable choice - but do remember that the focal length is based on 35mm full frame, not the crop sensor (1.5x) on the Fujifilm X cameras. This means that 16 actually becomes 24.

I'd recommend custom white balance, which allows you to capture and save the correct white balance for any scene. Like AEL or focus lock on the shutter, it only locks while the button is held down. But that is an interesting request - that the assigned key toggles from hold to on/off.
