This is one of many examples of why Daze with Jordan the Lion is hands down 'the best of the best' KZbinr. I'd never heard of Mabel Normand or Desmond Taylor after watching this I had to know more. Thank you Jordan for all the work you put into each episode. Another FANTASTIC EPISODE ( vlog - done so well it's better than anything on network tv )

Jordan: Thanks for doing a vlog on Mabel and her home!!!!! Your the best! She was a legend of the silver screen. The first woman of comedy in Hollywood and still the best, a writer, director, studio owner all in a male dominated industry. By 1917 only Woodrow Wilson was more popular than her. Her drug use was greatly exaggerated, 3 of her brothers and sisters died in childhood of TB. I am so glad she lasted to give us, and world her tremendous gift and talent. Mickey and the The Extra Girl are my favorites of hers.

I've probably seen Mabel Normand in a film or two when I was young. I grew up watching silents on The Saturday Afternoon Matinee. She is certainly pretty! Thank you for your fascinating videos about Mabel! Just a side note, my lovely grandmother (dec) was the pianist for the local movie theater for the silents! She would have loved you, your vlogs & Jah too!

I have a coffee table book someone gave me years ago and it has pix of all the silent movie stars in it. Harold Lloyd had a Chinese inspired den in his home and it was beautiful even in black and white. I'll have you know that for the last 2 nights, I have binged on your vlogs for 7 hours! I am so lad I found you and love your content and your thoroughness and attention to detail. Loved hearing about silent movie stars. They fascinate me. Thank you for this! Give Jah a hug and kiss. I'm watching this again! Some of these, I really enjoy THAT MUCH ! I wish California would have put some kind of protection on these old Hollywood Glam homes of movie stars. We don't see things comparable in today's homes. We couldn't afford to build like that today. It was a different time, I guess.nothing compares to it today. They can't be replaced now.

A nice compact house - not exactly a Beverley Hills mansion, but then Mabel wasn't a mansion girl. Until she bought this one (for 20k) she always rented. The rear isn't exactly private, so Mabel always used Nazimova's pool - of scandalous parties fame. How about making a tour of the Mabel Normand Studio on Fountain Ave? (now called The Mack Sennett Studios!).

I'm impressed that even though I grew up in Hollywood and am almost 60 you still seem to have learned a lot more about it than I have. I had to laugh @ the 4:05 mark when you said thank you to the Sacramento Kings for missing the free throws. I have no idea what made you say that but, I'm thinking it has to be reference to the 2001 playoffs where the Kings lost to the Lakers. Every time I hear a Kings fan say the refs handed game 6 to the Lakers I have to remind them the Kings only made 16 of 30 free throws in game 7 and that doesn't win championships. One more FT and no O.T. and most likely NBA Championship.

I doubt if Mabel killed Desmond. Someone came in or was already hiding in her house and killed that man. Mabel went down for the fall. It could have been Mack Sennett himself. He knew how to get in her house without the chauffeur or her there!
@poorthing3 жыл бұрын
Taylor was not killed in Mabels house. Mabel did not take 'the fall' for his murder. Mabels career was affected by her proximity to back to back scandals and her continuing fight with worsening Tuberculosis. Her usage of drugs/drink and hard partying all attributed to a gradual diminishing career. She retired from films in '26. At 38 in 1930 she died after being in a TB sanitorium for a year.
