My Italian grandmother who passed away in 2005 at the age of 97 was at Rudolph Valentino's funeral. She said thousands and thousands of people attended, many in tears and all wanting to be there to show their love and devotion for such a beloved actor.

Rudy had a home in Whitestone , Queens that is now a restaurant and catering Hall. The restaurant has pictures of him and the house way back when. The house faces little neck bay and is next door to a public golf course.

Sorry if you mentioned this, but, as soon as I saw the ballroom... I don't know "why", but, I seem to recall seeing this room being used in the film "White Nights" with Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines in their "dance-off" scene just as they were all preparing to escape!

Wow! I've seen the Alexandria from the outside, but never from the inside...and your visit to Valentino's suite was INCREDIBLE! I can't imagine how elegant it was 100 years ago. I'd like to see them keep the room a little cleaner and maybe replace the outdated TV, table, etc. with restored items from 1910-1920.

What an absolute thrill, to see the ballroom and Rudolph Valentino's suite!!! It must've been so posh back then, with the velvet wallpaper and deep sultry colors, but a little surprised the room wasn't kept a bit nicer. My favorite era, the twenties. Because it is in Skid Row and it actully a bad place. Some of it looks nice ...but it is low income housing ( which I am not against) it is just that the ( hotel) uses that money not to make the place nice they just pocket ir and not fix anything up. The ball rooms look nice on the surface but is a scary place especaill two year latee. They house really scary mental patients there instead of putting them in a hospital because there is not to many mental hospitals to take care of them. I know this sounds bad but I work in a menal hospital in Laguna Beach California nd a lot of patients are dangerouse and they get money for really bad crimanals to live there instead of sending them to prision. This place would be turned down by the historical socitey for these reasons.

While touring the room I noticed some rather odd stains on the carpet and what appeared to be a spatter on the wall.Could this be why the room is no longer used? You panned over it rather quickly.Which made me wonder if it was just paint or if was indeed something that would have tainted the wonderful history of this room?Thanks.

That was blood. I work as a nurse in a emergancy room and at a mental hospital. I know blood splatter. It makes since as that is ain Skid Row and a beyond dangerous area.

Things have changed. I worked in downtown from 1996 to 2007 and would walk by there a couple times a week and went to Skid row a lot and eat at Cole's. Went into The Alexandria a lot. There was a restaurant. It was run down. The whole area was but now they made it a hipster hangout and fixed it up. I prefer it when it was run down and seedy.

They (someone)stripped Falcon Lair down to the studs some years ago. They were gonna re-haul it, but I don't think that materialized. Therethere was a lot of property to falcon lair little-by-little that property got sold because of course property taxes got higher and higher in California.there may be some original horse barns on that property what's left of the property of Falcon Lair. Originally Valentino's home was exquisitely decorated and he had some fabulous antiques. There are old photos of the interior and it's unbelievable. Sadly after he died they auctioned off the contents of his home and it went for pennies on the dollar.you can get a lot of information off of a Rudolph Valentino website that talks all about Falcon Lair it's on the internet.

The architecture of that ballroom is beautiful. Being able to walk into a place, including Valentino's apartment is that has so much history is another reason that we need to preserve it. Jah is so adorable. When he puts his paws up like that, if he could talk I bet he'd say Lies dad all lies. I never do those things LOL

It is so cool how you manage to get inside and behind the scenes of some of the best places around the city. It’s like you have a “Back Stage Pass” around your neck all the time. Ha! We tried to get inside the Alexandria yesterday and was turned away. Couldn’t get passed the security guard at the door. Only let us see the little hallway with the pictures. 😒

You should try to talk about the bricked off wing of the Alexandria! The rooms are a time capsule, nobody has been or out since they were closed off, still clothing and belongings of the guests, and the windows are left exactly as they were from the guests. Would be a cool vlog!

The “Phantom Wing” was sold off and is now managed by a different firm. The rooms were converted into condos, I read. Sadly, all those treasures are probably long gone.

I just love your videos Jordan the Lion as kept me sane this Summer, grounded with one of the most miserable humans you could imagine in a villa in Turkey. I somehow got into the ambassador hotel with a friend and toured the whole place. But a few years later our band went back and I talked the security guard into taking us around for a photoshoot all around the place. Also I bought the door handle to the garden of allah from the guy who was part of the crew who tore it down. lots of cool stuff in LA

Who's Norman? How were the squatters able to get in? Mgmt. screwed up by Not having them arrested!! They always trespass & vandalize private properties. Police should keep them in jail for several months. If they have a record, keep them in longer!! Maybe that will teach them. Also why would all the owners of that Amazing hotel not fix that room? Furnishings are circa 1970, not 1917. It was designed to look Victorian. BTW, the Valentino Suite was named in honor of Valentino. No one knows which room he really stayed in although he did live there briefly when he first arrived in Los Angeles.

I think the Alexandria Hotel should restore the Valentino suite and give it a 1920's decor (with 21st century conveniences, of course). They could rent it out to guests at a good rate. Fascinating tour, Jordan.

I love old buildings! Valentino certainly lived in an incredible building. Top of the line for the time. My Great Grandmother adored Valentino! When as young girls we'd be talking about some hot young actor, she'd butt right in, lol! Definition of my Great Grandmother "Well endowed woman, perfectly dressed and makeup on, hair not a strand out of place who would smother you in her chest when you hugged her. We were perfect angles to her." She was also the largest gossip in america and knew everything about the silent picture era and didn't mind giving you the tiniest detail! You would have loved her Jordan! Well maybe not the hugs, but her knowledge was incredible! Oh Jah you are such a ham, I love you little buddy!

Valentino was absolutely straight. He was such a ladies man. There were scandals in Italy before he left for America. There was a ballerina in Paris. He was getting it on with women from the time he was 15 in Italy. There was a scandal in Taranto involving a mother and her two daughters - all reputed to be seeing Valentino at the same time. One ended up pregnant. It helps to understand Italian, because Italy is a country that keeps very, very detailed records. In addition to that, the communities in Italy still talk about his escapades to this day. Stuff passed down from great-grandmothers, etc... It's very much "common knowledge". If they heard someone say he was gay, they'd laugh themselves to death.

Evansville, IN where I live still have historical houses (1871-1900's) our Old Courthouse(1890) Wedgewood Hall beautiful place for wedding receptions, Old Post Office Place (1875), Big 3 story building takes whole block of 2nd Street. New Harmony, IN cabins (1814-1815). Some are on the National Institute for Historic places? Love your vlogs!!!!
