Of all the years I’ve been religiously watching gun Jesus, these are two machine guns I’ve never seen before. Gilles; I recently stumbled across your channel and have since been glued to your content. Your research and presentation are fantastic, keep up the great work!

@@CanadianMacGyver 7:07 Do you think this is also why the early German Panzer I tank had two machine guns?

Ost btl 439, comprised of Russians and Ukrainians, based near Isegny had both russian and french MGs on its roster. Specifically listed were both the fm24/29 and MAC31s. Really cool to see two french MGs from the normandy campaign

one interesting thing about the MAC 34, is that the rate of fire was so fast that the magazine spring wasn't able to keep up with moving the mass of bullets (and the magazine outer case) in time with the action cycle, so to keep everything in time, the magazine was rotated by a sprocket actuated by the movement of the bolt carrier,

Clever intro and props to you for finding such a scarcity. Awaiting the Huot video ;)

I have a registered MAC 34 brought back from northern Africa. It is missing the trigger and actuating system. Ive been looking for parts for 12 plus years with zero luck. Most enthusiasts I have talked to are completely unaware the MAC 34 even exists. Hopefully this video will help!

This video has 2k views right now, here’s my prediction: Ive been studying the KZbin algorithm as if it was a stock market and if my intuition is correct, then your channel is about to see a MASSIVE influx of viewers and subscribers as soon as the algorithm starts recommending your videos to people who watch channels like Forgotten Weapons. I’m predicting this channel to have ~150k to 450k subs by 2025 and several videos which will have gained almost, if not over 2M views. Specifically the videos about the flechettes (that one’s gonna get a LOT of views) and the exploders and fresnel lens. Your video titles are really good too!

Firstly your designation for the infantry light machine gun Fusil-mitrailleur Modèle 1924 is incorrect. It was Fusil-mitrailleur Modèle 24/29, Model 24 was a failure and the few manufactured and those issued were withdrawn because the original Mle 24 cartridge was 7.5 x 57 mm and was so close to the German 8 mm Mauser that a Mle 24 could chamber a 8 mm Mauser with tragic results, so in the M29 the cartridge was shortened to 7.5 x 54mm to avoid this serious problem. the cartridge was designated Mle 1933. Secondly the Renault FT shown in your photo was an original 8 mm Hotchkiss armed variant, the Renault FT 31 armed with the fortress Reibel M31 was a strange development, due to financial constraints many of the 37 mm Cannon Mle 1916 Renault FTs were disarmed to arm the Renault 35 and Hotchkiss 35 until a longer barreled, marginally more capable 37 mm gun was developed for later R35, H35, H38, and R40. So the Armee had a number of Renault FT without armament so to make a slightly worse job of it the Fortress M31 was mounted, but the mounting was never as good as either the original 37 mm M1916 mount or the 8 mm Hotchkiss mount in that it let in copious splash.
