Channel Shop Review of the cordless drill the Mac Allister MSCD18-Li-2 from Screwfix Direct. Note there is a cheaper option but this comes with just one battery. This review is only based on this first month of use and so I don't know how things will go long term.

A good and straightforward review by someone who uses the drill like most of us would. Looks good for the money. I am getting one! Thanks for posting.

Thank you, a very good blog. I bought mine today (2/1/24) for £65.00 from B&Q, but still worth the money, as its a high quality product and a lot cheaper than anything else with all the functions, that you get on the very high end brands. David (me) from Northampton.

Cheers David, remember if you want to nip up your drill bit or undo it put to the centre position and turn the chuck 👍

Hi glad you liked the review, just remember if you do purchase one set the button near the trigger to the centre position then tighten the chuck when fitting a drill bit or screwdriver bit. This seems to hold the bits tighter, then put to centre position when undoing the chuck. Take care David 👍

Good review, I have always wanted a powered screw driver and didn’t expect a piece of kit this good value to be able to drill, too. I bought it, today, on the off chance that it would be half decent, being from Screwfix, I didn’t research it all, until now, which is unlike me!. The price has come down since you reviewed it, to £44, it seems really precisely and well built. I can’t wait to use it. I’m moving house in the next few weeks and I’m sure it will come in handy.

Thanks Robert, just remember to tighten your drill bits etc in the chuck as I show in the video. Any problems I've heard on these drills are bits coming loose but this does not happen if chucks are tightened and loosened how I show. It will drill brick etc if it is the model number shown having the hammer drill setting. Thanks for watching 👍

I bought this as my diy drill the other year, when drilling into 4 by 4 timber the chuck completely come to bit inside. Luckily managed to fix it myself but overall been a good first drill. Impact driver is pritty decent too.

Hi David. The main body is not far off a copy of the older 18volt DC725 DeWalt with the NiCad battery's. I've heard it said, I don't know if this is true though, that the big name brands sell of their older technology to the cheaper company's. It even sounds the same when running and makes the same noise when it brakes. I bet its a wolf in sheep's clothing. I still use three of the older DeWalt's. Rohm power tool chucks are the best in my opinion all the others I have had experience with come loose and are harder to grip to tighten up. Great price but I'd change the chuck for a Rohm immediately. Its so frustrating when the drill bits keep dropping out regularly. Great Review. I'd definitely be giving these a try in the future when the time comes. Tony

I purchased this drill from Screwfix sister company B&Q. it lasted 18 months, I found the chuck would work loose, the motor would often stop mid drilling. the only good thing was battery life & coming with two batteries. going back to Ryobi

Been driving me mad, keep having bits fall out. Never thought to put the switch in the middle position. thanks for that, great.

Seems to work better this way, switch in the middle holds the chuck from turning so when you tighten the chuck it grabs a bit more. They still on occasion come loose but not half as much, that's what I'm finding on mine anyway 👍 Thanks for watching, take care David

@@InTheWorkshop I tried this with my smaller version of this drill, and it's not locking unfortunately. Some of drills have some system that locks the spinning element when you tighten the bit, that's very useful. Have a nice day

Hi David hope your all well. Looks a cracking drill and a bargain price. It looks very much like the Stanley fat max 18 volt. I wouldn't worry about the small bits coming loose I've had it happen on bosch makita Hitachi milwaukee various drills in work. For 49.99 its a bargain if you ask me plus if you do get any issues screwfix are great at exchanging ect. But iam sure it will last fine. keep safe buddy

Hope you and yours are well Dan. The review of the drill is just my experience with it over the last month. I was looking last night for a cheap second drill and noticed some negative feedback on this Mac Allister drill. It was mainly about drill bits coming loose etc, but these could be customers used to Dewalt ones. Anyway only time will tell and like you say Screwfix are good at taking tools back. Take care David 👍

Be aware, I tried to buy a replacement charger for this as mine went missing. Cannot get a replacement from B&Q and Screwfix (Titan are same rebranded as part of kingfisher group) however they only keep the newer style solo batteries and they don't charge or fit in charger properly. Now have an almost perfect hardly used drill that needs scrapped. Well done B&Q

Have looked on eBay but only one there has 2 batteries and a charger at a £37 top bid. No need for extra batteries, would be better buying a new drill tbh
