This might sound pretty cheesy, but I’m really glad you uploaded this cover on here. I listened to Mac Demarco/Makeout Videotape religiously in high school and this was always my absolute favorite track. I’m in college now, but I still revisit this song every now and again and always feel exactly how I did when I was younger whenever I hear it. I’ve never gotten tired of this track now matter how many times I’ve listend to it, I still feel like I’m 16 years old sitting in my room late at night listening to this for the first time. Right now I’ve been going through some intense feelings and personal strife and this song is helping me through it just as it did in the past. This will forever be one of my favorite songs of all time.

What pitch is the standard tuning at because this can’t be altered tuning. It has to be raised a few pitches from standard right?

Around the time he recorded this, Mac used to record to tape and speed it up or down slightly before printing, so everything from that time sounded a semitone (or less) lower or higher in pitch from conventional tuning(s). Also, he used a very crappy guitar (which a fantastic tone imo) which most likely detuned pretty easily.

this recording is tuned in open D, capo on 2 bar (relative to capo) on 5 and use your ring finger on the a string 7th fret so 575555, them slide down 2 frets (353333)

its really hard to explain, but if you listen to Mac & Sean play with bar chords, while changing chords they play the open strings, and the capo just allows the open strings to be in the same key as the chords. The capo also makes the lead a lot easier
