If you have a strat or any guitar with a two point trem you can get his tone very easily by taking out a spring in the back of the guitar so the bridge floats then lightly hold down the trem bar while you pick.

from what I've seen Mac mostly plays vintage fenders and vintage guitars from other brands. haven't seen him with any squiers or cheap guitars. also, Mac has been known to use run a reverb into a chorus to get his sound, so the reverb actually came before any modulation effects. However, I believe he eventually switched to a setup similar to the one you use here where he has a vibrato and put the reverb after it like a normal person.
@LimewaterMusic2 жыл бұрын
Mac is definitely known to play shitter guitars. Danelectro and shitty squiers with bad intonation and thin sounding pickups are part of the signature Mac sound.

@@AndyMillar in the clip at the end it’s what he said that got bleeped out. But yeah teisco is a vintage Japanese brand that was one of the few companies that weren’t making bootlegs and were making all original instruments. You can find them in pawn shops if you’re lucky but they honestly be as cheap as $100 or as expensive as $3000. equipboard.com/pros/mac-demarco/mac-demarco-mosrite-hybrid-guitar?src=button

Hi, I'm a beginner and I was thinking about which electric guitar to buy so I can play "indie" sounds, including Mac Demarco, but when I saw your mention of the Les Paul I was sad because I was thinking of buying it. . . . because I was told it's good for beginners and I thought I could play indie or Mac songs so I wanted to ask you why Les Paul is not a good choice and which guitar would you recommend. :(
@AndyMillar3 жыл бұрын
The Les Paul models have a thicker sound as that's more suited to hard rock rather than indie. For the modern indie guitarist sound, Stratocaster, Jazzmaster or Jaguar would be my first recommendations. They sound thinner and more suited to the indie style. All the details aside, having a guitar that you like the look of and makes you want to pick it up and play is an important thing. If you are happy to just learn at your own pace without obsessing over exact sounds - I'd go for whatever makes you exited to play.

If you like the feel of Les Paul , I wouldn’t switch to a Fender just bc you’re afraid you can’t achieve that tone you want. I have a Les Paul Studio w Fishman Fluence Classic pickups , and I can get a nice Mac Demarco jangle. The right pickups , effects, amp and speaker will have more of an affect on your tone than your guitars body shape, I believe.

I’ma learn to play what cheap guitar do you recommend?
@AndyMillar3 жыл бұрын
Go for something you like the look of that's in your budget. Ignore brand names when it comes to cheaper guitars. The name tag is part of the cost when it comes to well known brands. I recommend you look up all your favorite guitar players just in case most of them play with the same model. For instance, Mac DeMarco, Mark Knopfler and John Frusciante all frequently play with a Strat model, not necessarily from Fender. I hope this helps
