I saw a video recently demonstrating that OS 9 can be modified to install on the Mac Mini G4, making it, apparently, the fastest OS 9 machine. Complete opposite direction to getting Snow Leopard on these things, but still, pretty cool.

Hi Michael - I saw this as well. A pretty exciting project. I would love being able to natively run Mac OS 9 on a Mac Mini G4. Definitely a future goal. Happy Thanksgiving!

@@thepowerpcguy5836 happy thanksgiving to you, but I live in one of the upside down countries. We don’t do thanksgiving thing here, since we apparently skipped the camaraderie phase with our indigenous folks.

@@thepowerpcguy5836 Running OS9 on my mini G4. There is a few issues. No bluetooth - so you're going to have use a wired mouse and keyboard. There is no wifi access. You'll need to use an ethernet cable Lastly, the internal speaker does not work in OS9, so you need to use the headphone socket for some external speakers or head phones. Honestly, for me, I'm using USB keyboard and mouse anyway so it was never and issue and they're easy enough to get hold of, but it does mean you're going to be using up both the two USB ports on the back of the machine. Not that they're useful for anything anyway being USB1.1. And I always use headphones for sound and ethernet so those weren't a killer for me either. Everything else works as intended (or rather as much as it could be intended if it was officially supported). It's probably one of the fastest OS9 machines you'll be able to use.

Thanks for watching! I have a 2006 Mac Mini 1.50 Core Solo, they are cool first generation Intel Macs.

Have you tried uploading Minecraft on it? I’d love to see how well that game plays on it. Also, how does it still connect to the iTunes Store? I have a 2006 MacBook Pro with a Core 2 Duo that runs on macOS Lion, and it doesn’t connect :(
@thepowerpcguy58363 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay in responding, it does play Minecraft but not very well. Performance is slow. Not unplayable, but definitely dropped frames on the low settings. As for iTunes I can still access the iTunes Store and purchase new media or download previously purchased material.

@@thepowerpcguy5836 Is that with or without the Optifine mod? And that's so strange. Are you able to connect it to Apple Music, too?
@thepowerpcguy58363 жыл бұрын
That is without the Optifine mod, I’ll have to give that a shot. I did not try Apple Music as I do not have a subscription to that service.
