That was so easy to follow. Thank you so much. One advice is to back up the ROMS that came with the Anbernic to be able to load them again to the new ROMS card. I have a question, how to shut it down not just sleep mode it?

In case you cant get to seem the ROMS on your second SD card (like i was experiencing), you need to set "scheme" to "master boot record" in Disk Utility (by default it was on GUID). If you don't want to erase the card again because you pasted a ton of games, you can manually erase that secret partition in terminal with diskutil, you can first list the partitions and then erase it, ask chatgpt for the proper command if you are not sure, but possibly "sudo diskutil eraseVolume free none disk2s1" if the unwanted EFI partition is disk2s1

Hey, awesome video, what I've been looking for! Thank you so much. And I love your presentation, it's very unique, with your hands only and your humor and voice. I've got a question about 2-cards method. What storage volume do you recommend for them? For the one with the OS, should I get something really small like 12 Gb or should I have something like 64 Gb? And for the games cards, if I plan to play not every game out there, but just my picked up favorites from NES, Sega, SNES and like a dozen games from PS1, what storage volume is okay? Thanks for saying so! You don't need a big card for the system. Even a 4gb card would do (I don't think you can buy them that small these days though). I use 16gb cards for this application. For your game storage I think a 32gb would do just fine for you, that'll let you have ALL the old 8 and 16 bit stuff along with a dozen or so PS1 games. Go for a 64gb if you want more or larger or multi-disk PS1 games. Hope this helps!

These steps should apply to the RG35xx Plus, however it'll depend on the state of Garlic whether or not it's worth it. Same principles apply for stock OS, had to use official rg35xx OS download from website, after trial and error, I was only able to use a 64GB sd card for OS only and then I used a 32Gb sd card for my roms. I couldn’t get a 4, 8, or 32Gb sd cards to work for the 1.07GB stock OS. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I recommend getting a new card (or cards, if you have a mac) and doing the garlic OS installation to that (you can keep your old card that came with the device if you ever want to go back to stock).

You CAN use the stock one, but I highly suggest to get a good quality replacement, because the stock SD cards are kinda cheap garbage. Something like a Sandisk Extreme amzn.to/41qWK3n

It seems not easy to get everything working. First I tried to copy the games from the original SD card as is. Some folder names are different. I had to move many zip files out of folders. I have a great many PS games from the original SD card that I don't know how to run. Maybe somebody could explain it to me? I tried adding some arcade games and it is hit or miss. Some games just don't run. I would like to know if there is a choice of emulators? I had to watch a video to learn all the shortcuts with the menu button. I had an easier time setting up hakchi for the NES Classic.

Nothing. You can ignore that. The reason we don't use it is because this is a 2 sd-card method, which is WAY easier than expanding that 2nd partition on the boot card.

You might as well just leave them on card 1, just in case it gets weird without them, but you can just keep your bios and roms on card 2 instead.

That means your 2nd games sd card isn't being detected. So either there's something up with the folder structure, something up with your rom files, or the drive isn't formatted properly (MS DOS FAT). It'll be one of those 3 issues.

It sounds like either an incompatible card (not likely), a bad format (try reformatting it), or something wrong with the folder/file structure (check that the folder names are proper and that the rom files are the correct type and they're in the right spot).

Check the updated instructions in the description. You need to use 7zip to decompress .001 (and it will combine .001 and .002 as long as they are in the same directory). That will extract the image file, and then you can flash the image.

Because it flashes a 4gb image. That's why we need a 2nd SD card for the ROMs. You CAN expand the partition on the system card, but it's not easy to do on mac (easy on PC though, check out my other GarlicOS vid)

I see Garlic OS by default has its own set of folder names used in the ROMS folder. EX. CPS 1, CPS 2, etc...Does that matter or can these folders be renamed?

They can't be renamed, otherwise the system won't 'see' the games.

So I followed the instructions you provided, but when I power on my RG35XX, I get the Tech Dweeb Splash Logo, but the Recent / Favorites / Consoles / Retroarch are still the same as Garlic OS. I don't see GarlicOS 1.2.7. It's the same old GarlicOS 1.2.4. What did I do wrong? I did the steps twice just to be sure, and got the same result. I did all the steps in the smaller system SD Card. I think that was correct, yes? Roms and BIOS are on the larger second card. That seems to be in order.

You're talking about the skin (my 'bonus tip'), right? When you copy the skin folders to the "CFW" folder on the partition, does it prompt you to 'merge' the files like I show in my video? Yes, you're right, all the steps are for the smaller sd card, the system card. When you put that into your computer you should have 2 partitions shown, one with roms, bios, and CFW (which is where you do the skin step), and one with a bunch of .gz files (which is where you did the boot logo, which works as you say). Make sure you're putting the skin folders into that CFW folder on the correct partition. That should work, I can't think of why it wouldn't.

I get the Tech Dweeb image when I power on, but when it goes into the system itself, it looks like the old GarlicOS 1.3.4. Not sure what I missed. Update: I found my mistake. I was copying the files from GarlicOS onto the card instead of yours. I just did the CORRECT thing and now I have the cool Tech Dweeb Skin. Thanks...I absolutely love it!!

As long as your card is formatted for Fat32 then you'll be good, but you'll have to move them into the rom folders that you copied over with the correct directory structure.

No, you'll need to put the roms themselves into the folders that Garlic OS uses. The folders are named differently so your old folder structure wouldn't be recognized.

When I was changing to MS-DOS (FAT), it said that the process failed. I looked at “show details” and it just said couldn’t modify partition map. Do you know how to fix this issue? Edit: I unplugged the sd card and plugged it back in and it now says “The disk you attached was not readable by this computer.” It didn’t say that when I first plugged in my sd card.

I did every step on this tutorial and everything seemed to work, but then when im on the garlic os Home Screen , for some reason it start to flicker to the time and language config screen, I don't know why, it some times it even freezes and I have to turn it on and off, anyone else experiencing this?

That's very strange. I'd suggest you redo the operating system flash, it sounds like something went wrong.

There is a file called CopyAndPasteOnTopOfStock, that is the one you use to update. Make sure you backup your saves before you do that though in case something goes wrong.

I'd suggest you redo the flash of the system card, and check the formatting on the games card (needs to be MS-DOS FAT). I've heard this same issue from many people and for several of them redoing the flash of the main system card was the fix.

Hey! Running into some trouble with this...I tried with two smaller cards and it worked no problem. Then tried to do it again with a larger card when I got it and I cant get any ROMS or consoles to show up. TF1 has just GarlicOC (like the first attempt), and TF2 has the ROMS/BIOS folders directly copied as you directed. It was formatted to FAT32 (several times) and I have some ROMS on it. Oddly enough, if I add ROMs to TF1 they'll show up, but I can't get any to show on my larger card. Any help much appreciated.

Yeah, the problem is the formatting on the larger storage sd card. Did you use the MS DOS FAT formatting? That should format it to fat32 but allow larger capacity (Usually fat32 is capped out at 32gb, but with Disk Utility you can format larger cards).

I discovered you have to make sure in Disk Utility that the Partition map for MS DOS is selected as Master Boot Record, rather than GUID. This seems to fix it for me.

When you decompress.001, it will automatically combine with.002

It's more complicated if you only have one card. Check the notes in the description, there is a link to a pastebin of the instructions for doing it with one SD card, but you'll be on your own for that.
