Trucks are all hit and miss. It’s the Driver that makes all the difference. I’m not a huge fan of Matco tools but my local driver is an awsome guy. Last time I called, he met me at an ice cream shop and bought all of my kids ice cream before we went on the truck. I know it’s all about making a sale but this small gesture keeps me buying tools from him. I’m sure he could survive without my small purchases but he is always appreciative and willing to meet me.

That’s awesome the person definitely helps make good tools better and works with you if there is ever any issues along the way. One of these days I’ll find a Matco Tools Truck, hope he’s as awesome as your driver.

A few years ago a flea market, I bought a bunch of old Mac sockets from a local mechanic. He'd retired and already sold his shop. They were all brand new and still sealed up. I got them cheap and I'm not worried about a warranty. What really impressed me about this video is that they warranty drill bits of ANY size, even broken ones. I don't have a professional shop, so I don't have tool trucks stopping by. However, I've always considered drill bits consumables. I do have a Drill Doctor and I use it often but, there's only so much that it can do.

Funny U mention that. I broke a Mac ratchet and got the “abuse” run around. Told him I’ll pay to fix it, next day I traded it in to my snap on dealer (he will take any tool for trade) asked him if I can crank on his ratchet with a pipe and his exact words were “yeah why not”

@@AATreeService I use it to open Honda transmission and differential drain bolts. The old Pilots differential drain/full bolts can be stubborn, and there's not a lot of clearance. Give the old FLL80 a quick and firm yank, and off it comes. I used to have a Tekton version of this type of ratchet, but the guts and square drive part kept braking.
@AATreeService
@AATreeService 2 жыл бұрын
@@jonnda that’s awesome that it’s still going strong!! I have the SLX80A for when I have to really go hard on a bolt like the GM crank bolts and the 4T65 bell housing bolt on the back side of the rear head. I even had to purchase the SHN36 to help me get a few things broken loose!!! I know the stress tests show tekton and others like snap on being at the top for strength but when you have multiple uses at max torque snap on seems to really shine for quality while others don’t “survive” I wish we could post pictures in the comments I have a lot of cool ones

I have that long handle axis ratchet. I actually lost one off my service truck and bought another. I'm positive it's a rebranded proto precision 90 with a different cut on the handle. Our mac truck is usually pretty empty which is a bummer because I really like mac tools.

The letter M 1/4, X 3/8, and V 1/2 at least get the drive size. I don't recall but some of the older sockets were like 3 numbers like you mentioned rather than the number of points. Some were the single drilled out detent for the ball while the newer sockets have the 4 oval grinds. All just changes in manufacturing over time and attempts to streamline part numbers.

20 years ago when I first started. I had a snap On guy show up and a Mac guy. Mac was a little cheaper so I went to him. I ordered a A/C gauge set. The guy told me a week or two. I was borrowing my co-workers tools. After 3 weeks I asked again. I was told it’s on order still. I told the guy. Dude I need to ASAP. I was told I had to buy one and could not borrow it much longer from the old timers. At 5 weeks I saw the guy and said I need it now! The Mac guy breaks down and almost cry’s. He tells me he cannot afford to pay to get his inventory out of the warehouse. I immediately went to my shop manger. My shop manager yells at the Mac guy. Don’t fucking ever come back! The next day I spend 15k on the Snap on truck. The guy even brought it to my house.

Not to be that guy, but with mac I find most of their stuff to be imports, or Proto/Facom/Expert by facom stuff like that.. soo I've never really seen the point of paying high prices becuase you can just warranty it all nornally from Facom for proto/facom all of the brands that fall under the Stanley group name.. It doesnt feel really that exclusive either.

The guy is listing off prices so casually--as though they're even remotely reasonable. Every time I heard a price I laughed.

@@chiefin3615 It's not the 80s anymore. There's way too many options for high end tools. No reason to pay tool truck prices. Mark my words. Tool trucks will not exist in 10 years if they don't change their market strategy. It may already be too late.

@@regibson23 I think there will always be tool trucks. People will and do pay for service by paying those higher numbers for tools. My snap on, mac, and matco dealer will come to the shop as soon as possible if there's anything we need. Whether a special tool they have or I broke something I need to do my job and I need a warranty they will come right away. There is good options out there that are better bang for your buck money wise, but you can't beat the service you get from tool trucks, that is if you have a good tool guy running the truck. That service is the only reason I will and do pay those higher prices for good quality tools.

@@regibson23 snap on is gonna have to shrink a lot before that happens. They are the largest single tool usa company around. Stanley of course is bigger but they own 20-30 different brands

I don’t know about you but if I’m ever alone in the Matt truck and the dealer zipper down I think he’s expecting way more than I’m willing to fucking pay for any tool
