Adaptor is for ratchet and put your bits into adaptor

I have that set essentially but it has the RBRT bits in it, I also have the proto set identical to your set I also picked up a magnetic bit rail from proto that is full of proto USA bits off of eBay if I can find it again I’ll post the info They are by far the best ratcheting screwdrivers on the market.

The bit coupler or adapter is for if you want to use a bit on a 1/4 inch ratchet.
