Beautiful Bible, and thanks for the peek inside. Good points about following any one preacher’s theology. I absolutely agree with MacArthur on more points than I don’t, but it’s a good reminder that the Bible is itself the inspired text, and not anyone’s notes. I am grateful for good teachers for sure though. If I ever acquire this I’ll probably refrain from marking it up as much as my trusty MacArthur ESV that I’ve had since coming to Christ 12 years ago! It’s just too gorgeous.

John Macarthurs eschatology teaching is spot on.
@coltonyarbroАй бұрын
I disagree. But Christians have been disagreeing about eschatology for a long time.

@@timmysaxon-qe5of dispensationalism is considered within orthodox belief, but I think it’s dangerous. They claim 1 Thessalonians 4 is the rapture (caught up) that happens before the tribulation, and Matthew 24 happens towards the end of the tribulation. But if you read them side by side, it clear that these are the same event. Matter of fact Paul even says that he is quoting Jesus in 4:15 with a rabbinical formula. A RF was used by rabbis when they quoted the teaching of another greater rabbi. Paul also used a RF when he quoted Jesus pertaining the Lord table and the resurrection in 1Corinthians. The point is, the coming of Jesus in 1 Thessalonians 4 is the same coming given by Jesus in Matthew 24 and Mark 13. So there is no Pre-tribulation rapture. Believers will see the Antichrist before Jesus returns. Even Paul taught this in chapter 2 of 2Thessalonians. Dispensational theology is dangerous because it gives the believer false security, instead of warning them to be ready for persecution. It makes weak believers. That the point Jesus makes in Matthew 24-25.

I came out of the dispensationalist camp. I respect MacArthur but I’m not a dispensationalist and have different views on gifts and a plethora of other issues. However that being said. I have an immense respect for his legacy and exegetical rigor. My personal preference is to use a non-study Bible. Just the text.

@@pastoreric8283actually your opinion is just flawed and there IS pre trib. You just deny that truth. And yours is really dangerous

I’d like to know what his eschatology is and his understanding of the church of Israel is. Please elaborate.. I’m a new to alll this.
@coltonyarbro2 ай бұрын
Sorry about the terms. Eschatology is the study of last things, or simply put, the end times. Short answer to the other question is he views the church and Israel as two separate peoples of God, where as I would say God only has one covenant people (Ephesians 2)
@JasonStephens7Ай бұрын
@@coltonyarbroI know Progressive Covenantalism affirms this view too. Do you hold to that or 1689 Confessionalism?
@coltonyarbroАй бұрын
@@JasonStephens7 I tend to lean towards the view expressed in this book. It’s 1689. amzn.to/40mY0rz

What? Are you talking about the apocrypha? If so, the apocrypha is not God‘s word. It was considered history by the Jews, but not divinely inspired.

Great review, as usual. I thought about preordering one from 316Publishing but chose not to. I have the ESV edition in hardback, and, like you, I'm not completely on the same page as JMac, so putting out the money didn't make sense.

Well, there are multiple KZbin videos in reply to my search for “dispensationalism”. I am reciting a verse God gave me some time ago “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.” I am abandoning the search. My brain feels like mush. Sometimes His book is just over my head. Think I’ll go back and reread the gospel of John.

Pretty Bible--But Reformed-dispensationalism with no Holy Spirit--No thanks. Take a look at Nelson's NKJV study bible in Genuine Leather. It has an awesome binding too. Normally I don't care for the full color study bibles (except the ESV), but it is tasteful. It is not the encyclopedia that the ESV is, but it is that great mix of study and devotion. The translation, the notes, the binding and layout make this the SB I use the most for daily Bible reading.

@JasonStephens7Ай бұрын
No Holy Spirit? That’s a strange comment.
@pastoreric8283Ай бұрын
@ McArthur is a cessationist. They believe that the gifts of the HS, and baptism with HS have ceased with the completion of the New Testament. A complete misreading of scriptural promises given to the believer until Jesus returns at the end of the age (Acts 2). It’s like canceling half of the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer.
