Its a musical based on an actual book called "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" and its a collection of poetry from the perspective of cats, hence why it was so easily adapted thematically by Andrew Lloyd Webber into songform. Cat's arent going to have any real grasp of the extent of 'Human Crime' its merely to be a humorous allusion to his depraved nature because every crime they actually mention is one that aint :)

well! those lines are sung by bomba and demeter respectively, and while in the original poem that was probably the point (to make such a leap in severity that it was absurdly funny) here it's to serve a different purpose: bomba has all the lines where macavity is like... "toned down". instead of talking about his crimes, she's talking about how weird he looks. bomba is acting more like he's some jilted guy she used to date while demeter is more trying to pull out all the stops to warn the other cats. so you have "yeah, he's a petty bitch sometimes and steals your milk" with demeter cutting in to remind everyone of the severity "he literally KILLS THINGS BE SCARED OF HIM!!!!!"

@@soapness Victoria is kind of implied to be a new kitten to the tribe and separate from the rest. Mistopheles is also young, there's nothing really there about his parentage. Generally the theories that makes the most sense are: Grizzabella is the mother of Munkustrap, Alonzo, and Macavity, MAYBE but not likely Tugger (because he's younger). Part of the reason they resent her is because she fully abandoned them on the streets as juveniles to live an elegant life with humans. (Many of the cats have owners but are still outdoor cats, while she became a pampered show cat kept inside) Deuteronomy is PROBABLY the father of several of them, most likely Munkustrap, hence why he takes the role of narrator and seems to kind of be the leader of the pack. Macavity and Demeter had Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer, and very likely Jemima too. Possibly Mistopheles? Hard to say. Victoria's a new kitten recently in the area. Bombalurina and Demeter are sisters. Skimbleshanks seems fond of Jellylorum Gus could easily be the father of a few of the younger ones. Jennyanydots and Jellylorum MIGHT be sisters, unclear These are all just various fan theories out there, some based on context clues and unused notes and others just based on cat colors and fan interpretations. I personally agree with some but not all.

Both were charmed/seduced by him, but Bomburalina didnt stick around long enough to discover that he was abusive or at least a really bad lover. She thinks that Demeter is just overreacting since Demeter is a really anxious cat to begin with (even being scared by the Rum Tum Tugger at times), but Demeter is legitamately terrified of him even if she can remember some of the good times they had together whenever Bomburalina reminds her of them. Yes im reading into it too much but i dont care. Ive crafted personal backstories for every single cat in this godforsaken musical so i can and will die on this hill.

my favorite part of this is watching demeter slowly realize that bombs slept with him too. it comes out in little details, like the fact bomb knows what he looks like and that he cheats at cards. you can also see that demeter and bomb are at different stages: demeter seems to fear him and have been in a more abusive relationship, while bombs just got the initial hots for the bad boy (she flirts with tugger too in his number), and demeter looks a little worried for her. this is the level of choreography that makes characters come to life!

I watched the whole musical and I think Demeter and Macavity had a case. She's the one to scream "MACAVITY!" every time his laugh is heard, she's the one to recognize him when he disguises himself as Old Deuteronomy and she has a scared but nostalgic look in her face as she sings this. I feel like she's seen the errors of following the villain, but still misses him. And I think Bombalurina knows AND is very angry at her for it and trying to help her forget that awful tom. The quote "He was never there" is used to say that there is no evidence that can place him at the scene of the crime, regardless of whether or not it is known that he committed it. If the evidence cannot prove that he is guilty, then in the eyes of the law, he is not. If it cannot definitively place him at the scene, then in the eyes of the law, he was not there. And Macavity is the best there is at ensuring that the evidence cannot prove anything. He always has at least three alibis (evidence that can and will unquestionably prove his innocence, most often an eye witness who can say with certainty, "Yes officer, I saw him in this place at this time") prepared for any given scenario and he always has his escape route planned to have him away from the scene of the crime well before the authorities can arrive. So regardless of whether it is common knowledge for everyone that he committed the crime or not. What ever time the deed took place, Macavity wasn't there.

My child had to remember and recite the first half of the poem of this song for school, and she found this song, and it was so useful. Weve also seen Cats in the theatre. Its got genious choreography, songs, costumes and actors/actresses. We saw it in theatre about 4/5 years ago and cant wait for it to come back near us on tour so we can see it again.

I did this musical not too long ago and I was able to play the amazing part of Demeter in the show. When I saw the 2019 movie I was pretty disappointed as Demeter wasn’t involved in the macavity dance at all and Barley even had a line. This show perfectly shows every cat and what their capable of. I will always prefer this side of cats :)

I think a lot of people miss the point when they say the movie would have worked better if it were animated. A very important part of the musical is the dancing. In my opinion animation takes some of the shock valiue from dancing. You don't think "Wow, I can't believe a human being can do that" because a human being isn't doing that. EDIT: I mean the 2019 movie.
