@@LTRX_ The scarlet macaws were born to be free and to be wild. They were captive bred by the organisation ARCAS which is the premier centre of rescue/rehab/wild return in Guatemala. The parents of these birds were damaged and unreleaseable and seized by Guatemalan govt and Guatemalan police. The recovered damaged birds are housed at ARCAS in lovely big aviaries within a jungle setting. The babies of these parents are raised by the parents and when almost 1 yr are moved into large flight aviaries. The offspring are looked after with minimal human contact other than watching over health/welfare. At approx 3/4 yrs they are released with GPS tracking collars to monitor their reintroduction/reintegration back into the wild. There were 9 birds released. 1 passed away. The release was in 2015. In 2018 13 more birds were released. All alive today. The GPS collars fall off after 12 mths.

That’s so nice of you that you feel them and treat them as individuals! But to stop their suffering and pain, we should never buy them from pet shops or breeders. Not just birds, it’s the same for every animal.

I was crying also. It saddens me so much when I see these gorgeous birds in cages Behind Bars in people's homes or pet stores. They are purchased and kept more for a decorative fixture in a nice sunroom than they are for a loving pit. So many people don't realize what they're getting into with the squawking and the noise. It breaks my heart to see something so gorgeous meant to fly free sitting on a perch Behind Bars.
