Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare and was thought to have first been performed in the early 17th century. What may have been one of Shakespeare's greatest plays that highlights the ambition of man, may also have been an indirect warning to the newly crowned King James not to allow the power to go to his head.

the main thing I learned that I love from this is that now I know Lady Macbeth is Darth Sidious and Macbeth is Anakin. I hope my prompt is on them tomorrow I need to graduate...

During the scene with Banquo's ghost it wouldn't surprise me if some guests did quietly put two and two together. The problem is you're at the table of a mad king who could have you and everyone you know and love murdered with a few words. Even if you've figured it out, you keep your mouth shut if you aren't stupid.

People watching this before doing a test while I'm just listening to it while I draw and because I actually really liked this play. Also, the witches are my favorite characters because they're lines or so fun to say: "Doudle, double, toil and trouble fire burn and cauldron bubble.." So dang catchy! They even turned this into a little song for movie Harry Potter and Prisoner of Azkaban. Also the part where they kill McDuff's son is lowkey hilarious because that kid sounded like a little smart-ass, so I was litterally rolling on the floor when the murdered killed him and said: "Die you little egg!" 😂

Great job breaking this down. I don't agree on certain interpretations but that's debatable. Correction on Banquo fleeing 8:00. As a Thane himself, he had responsibilities to attend to but promised Macbeth he would return later that night to attend the banquet. (3.1.30) This is confirmed in the discussion that Lady M has with her servant in the following scene.

I heard that the character of Macbeth was based off an actual historic figure, at least in part.. But that Shakespeare made him more villainess in order to please his patron.

Im using this along with my lecture notes and other KZbin videos concerning Literary devices. Seemingly an in depth analysis and fun as always, although there is little mention of other side characters such as King Duncan and Banquo. However I'll offer an update on how my test(essay) went this Thursday.

@@jit.trippin7423 hey, so I did okay actually for someone who was nervous and wrote slow. I got 62% despite having written 1 page of a 3 page essay. Some people wrote more and still failed. So this video helps but it was quite pointless in my opinion, just watch the play on youtube and read or listen to your lecture notes, since they will ask you about something from there.

The play The Tragedy of Macbeth was written as a gift to KJ. He was a patron of the theater and Shakespeare’s troupe renamed themselves the King’s Men. No way would he piss off his patron and his King with insults and hidden slanders.

I think you misinterpret the "tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow" speech. I don't think that Macbeth is saying that he doesn't care about his wife dying, but is commenting on how pointless and fickle life is for all of us, and that now, without his wife, he doesn't really have anything to live for anymore either. That also puts the final battle in perspective, and his "courage" in the end. It's less about being brave, and more about having nothing to lose, and almost wanting* Mcduff to kill him. He even says before the battle, how he's getting to old age, but he has none of the things he should have had by this point in his life. "I have lived long enough. My way of life Is fall’n into the sere, the yellow leaf, And that which should accompany old age, As honour, love, obedience, troops of friends, I must not look to have; but in their stead Curses, not loud but deep, mouth-honour, breath Which the poor heart would fain deny, and dare not." I think his wife's death is actually the turning point for Macbeth, where he realizes his ambition and everything he was working towards was pointless, and the prize of being king wasn't worth everything he lost to get there.

Let’s follow the logic behind the claim that MacDuff is a coward. The entire royal army is looking for you with orders to kill your wife and child. The first place the army will go is to his house. His wife and child are dead. The only question is whether his genes will be wiped out today. He actually makes the only logical decision, which is that his family his dead, his murder will not solve anything (for his family line, it obviously has implications for future conflict etc). So why all the MacDuff hate? He did the logic, brave thing, he fought on, despite his inevitable massive personal loss. What would you do that is more admirable? Go to a certain death? Interesting….
