My story about backups.... I copied all the things I needed to CD (yes it was a few years ago and USB storage was not a thing). When windows had an issue - halfway through booting it announced that there wasn't a hard disk in the computer. I wasn't worried as everything I needed was backed up. I put in a new hard disk reinstalled windows only to find that none of the CD's were readable (okay 1 worked but didn't have what I really needed). I put in an identical hard disk into the computer and cloned the faulty disk, when I booted from the clone it had the same fault as the original... all good. Now I worked on the disk, knowing that if I messed it up I could just clone it again from the original. It took me several days to get a partially working system that linux would read (but not windows) and I copied all the files I wanted off the disk. Two things I learnt... 1. Don't trust a single backup, 2. Most writable CDs are not designed to keep information for a long time. I now have multiple cloud backups, offline backups, and mailed to my parents backups. I'm not going through that feeling of 'I've lost everything' again, once is enough.

Actual good employee: "Nah, just put their work in my stack, then when they come back they can take it out of mine." Unfortunately, employees who volunteer to help the company like that get the shaft these days because people try to take advantage of their willingness to lighten the load, including their superiors. Used to be the main caveat in American business was "buyer beware", meaning do your research before you purchase something. Now it's "volunteer beware", at least from what I've seen in workplaces.
@rossmanngroup3 жыл бұрын
There's a reason he's the best paid board technician. I notice and oversee everything people do, even when they think I don't. It all goes into a mental ledger.
@r.b.ratieta61113 жыл бұрын
@@rossmanngroup Lol, that's why I follow your channel and enjoy your videos, Louis. I think your approach to business, your employees and work in general is something that a bunch of other employers and businesses seem to have forgotten, especially here in the States. I hope you didn't misconstrue my comment as something directed at you; quite the contrary, I was saying it in comparison to you and your business approach. If you have an employee who's openly willing to take on a bigger workload while his coworkers are out, that tells me he trusts that his company and employer won't run him into the ground and then hold him responsible for any unforeseen problems out of his scope or purview. Sadly, it seems a lot of companies these days have "leaders" or managers who are just as petty about achieving the immediate goals in front of them as the lazy employees who do what they can to cover their ass with the least amount of work possible. Never mind the quality, never mind the long term effects or consequences, never mind the potential to actually make one's work and business rock solid so it can withstand most of what gets thrown at it. Nah bro, slap a band aid on that bad boy and consider it another successful open-heart surgery, job well done. Point being, I was genuinely impressed when I heard him offer to do that, and was somewhat surprised to realize it's something I haven't heard in the workplace in a good while. It's good to see a guy with a growing KZbin channel espouse the idea that, spoiler alert, if you treat your employees well, *gasp*, they're more willing to come in and do good work. I know you've had to fire people from time to time, but I figure that's the exception, not the rule. Anyway, good on you, Louis. Thanks for not banning me in spite of my random comments on streaming chat. 😉😛 And, weird as this may sound, thanks for having the courtesy of being brutally honest. I grew up in a place that values perfect appearances over honest character, and once I got to a certain age it really started to piss me off. So thanks for the occasional witty insult. Means I know where you stand and that you're much more likely to tell the truth.

I tried every single Linux desktop interface before settling for the "here's an extra 2gb of RAM, please look good on my touchscreen, make google drive integration effortless, and don't crash" solution with Gnome 41 on Fedora 35.
@TenOfTwenty2 жыл бұрын
Quick question. I haven't tried Fedora since version 20. Is version 35 stable?
@wingedrhinotv2 жыл бұрын
@@TenOfTwenty yep it is! You get a very vanilla Gnome 41 desktop, working GSConnect (to share notifications, clipboard, get call alerts, reply to notifications & texts, etc on an Android phone and also use the phone/laptop as each other's input devices), boring it-just-works style Google integration for calendar and drive, and the Gnome 41 desktop makes Chromium Progressive Web Apps extremely app-like. There's a plugin to pin apps to workspaces and this also works with the PWA shortcuts & any other arbitrary .desktop file. Oh and after a system upgrade you get Kernel 5.15 which makes a lot of hardware glitches (like crappy touchpads) go away.
