As somebody who does something similar I agree. The battery life is great and it’s nice to be able to take advantage of the multi-core processor. I’d upgrade to the 10 core non binned one just so you can Get the best performance possible. Only thing is if you’re using 8+ cores at one time you can get maybe 2 hours of battery life but that’s expected. But for someone who needs the power it’s a great option imo. Also unless you’re doing gpu related work I don’t think it makes sense to get the max since the max only uses the extra memory bandwidth for gpu related tasks. The neural engines are the same on both. Plus if you’re really doing intensive gpu things like training models or something mwtbe he would make more sense to get a dedicated graphics card and run that on a Linux machine or use some sort of remote system.

Great video! Having owned the 16" M1 Pro, and the M2 Air, for most things the Air is more than capable - the only time I feel bogged down is when I'm doing 3D modelling, and on occasion video editing, but because the M2 Air has better h265 encoding, it does render quite a bit faster. That being said, the Pro display is very nice, having the extra ports is nice, and being able to use multiple displays without a DisplayLink hub is much, much better. I definitely feel like we're spoiled with this gear!

Been using the M1 14" inch for almost a year. It's not only the best laptop ever made, it's probably the best computer ever made. The performance is insane and it handles anything you throw at it. The build quality, keyboard and display is just downright awesome. I still haven't heard the fan kick on at any time and currently I have 865 browser tabs open, Spotify, Notes, Photoshop, VSCode and Sublime running and everything is perfectly smooth and the computer is absolutely silent. I've been using it in clamshell mode connected to a 4K 32" inch monitor most of the time and there is no issue with the heat and keyboard is perfect. If you're looking for a laptop, just get it. In addition - I was waiting to see what Apple was gonna come out with for their M2 line but as multiple (trusted) articles have mentioned, its prolly not worth the wait unless you need that little extra performance and other bells and whistles. Looked at it, was seriously tempted but ultimately went with the mac studio and 3 monitors.

Nice review!! Do you think it would be wrong to go with a discounted 14 M1 Pro in 2023 compared to a 14 M2 Pro ? (there is a ~ 350 $ difference for the base models)
