Combine the working mans club comic with catchy punk rock and you get the Macc Lads. The irony is that they weren’t anywhere near as rough as they made out and Macclesfield is actually a well off, middle class town. They were ahead of their time in the early to mid 80s, if they’d appeared mid 90s they would’ve been lauded as ironic comic genius’.
