MACD INDICATOR EXPLAINED (Trade with the trend)

In this video we take a more detailed look at the MACD indicator.
The MACD indicator is a highly effective tool to trade with the trend, or exit a trend to limit drawdown.
I personally apply the MACD indicator to my breakout strategy to ensure I'm always with the trend.
Its commonly used by traders, although knowing when to apply the indicator, is just as important as the indicator itself.

You forgot to explain bullish/bearish divergence/convergence. The MACD simplifies the analysis of trend, foreshadows reversals & and most importantly helps assess trend health. You also need to only buy above the 0 line. That being all said, if you know how to read price action and volume you don’t need it because after all it’s a lagging indicator. Price creates the indicator not the other way around.

Hmmm, call me wacky, but I'd probably use the tool that accurately indicates the movement of the security so I can know when to buy and sell. And on the MACD histograms -- I noticed some Histo bars are light green and others are dark green (similar to the negative light red vs dark red MACD histo bars). Why is that? Great video nonetheless. Glad you endorse the MACD. A lot of people talk shit about it but in actuality it is quiet effective in consistently extracting money from the markets. I believe it’s powerful when used in conjunction with pivot points/price levels which are derived from Yearly Open, Close, High, Low.

Gareth, I understand the slope (or tilt) of the MACD and signal lines also help in determining an UP trend or DOWN trend. Do you agree? I am studying Trend Following, and, while a have read a few books about it (as well as applying TF ideas in actual trades), I am still working on defining good Entry points for TF trades. Results (and profit / loss mixed) so far. Still early. Any thoughts or suggestions? Yes, I understand that no one can "predict" the market. These indicators -- along with price action can give us some estimate on trends... What do you think?

A question is cross above or below the 0 line significant? So if your looking for a bullish signal and the cross is below the 0 does that matter or should you wait until it goes above the 0 histogram line? Also in the opposite direction. if your looking for bearish signal to either get out or to short on. Does a cross of the MACD below the signal line matter if it happens above or below the 0 histogram line?

SIR, When swing trading forex with support/resistance what is reliable time chart to use for S/R levels--is it 4 hour OR 1 hour chart? I think that 1H ,30M, S/R levels are going to get easily violated if trading is against trend on 4H/Daily chart. Thanks Gareth. Remember your advice to use the weekly MACD to go long, and the daily MACD to sell (re Bitcoin). I think your point about waiting for a strong trend is important. Personally I like a sharp crossover under the line to go long - on the weekly chart. Relatively uncommon, but all the better for that.

I wait for the blue line to cross down. There is a lot of noise in price action, the MACD helps smooth the noise albeit at a lagging pace. Ot suits my approach but may be not others.😉

Macd is the shorter EMA -longer EMA, not the other way around as indicated in your video.

MACD is a lagging indicator. The signals are always late and you really should use another confirmation to go with it. When i was using it i would not wait for the line to cross 0. But rather enter when i saw the bars retreating back to 0. Why? Simple. The indicator oscillates around 0 and will always eventually return to the 0 line. By watching for support and resistance and then using the MACD movement back towards 0... One can get a very good entry.

@@FinancialWisdom I actually seriously played with this indicator. lol. i altered the numbers so the signals would come faster.... yes... more bad ones came with that. But it was a lot more reactive and really the % of melon signals was not that much higher. Try 8 21 5. One of my other favorite signals when i used them was an RSI cross. So. RSI 5 would cross RSI 14. IF it did this under the 50 i would buy until the 5 hit 85. and if it crossed over the 50 i would sell until the 5 hit 15. It was not perfect. But it was not bad either. I just work with price action now. Volume, trends, SR. i keep it a lot more simple. I get much larger trades.

You don’t always have to think long term. Investing/Trading is as much a tool for shaping your present financial situation as it is for forming your future one. Do you want to buy a BMW next year? Do you want to go on a cruise? Wouldn’t a vacation that was paid for with dividends feel nice?

The caveat here is that you need to pinpoint your goals first. If you want to go on a vacation in a year, you have to figure out the cost of the vacation and then come up with an investing strategy to meet that goal. If you don’t have a set goal, the money that should be going into that investment will doubtless be used for other purposes that seem more pressing at the time.

Trend on 4H chart is the best trend guide for majority of forex traders( if one keeps trades for 2-5 days. By the time trader realizes that trend on daily chart is up, market has already gone up about 3-5 days & if you ask supercomputer for the mathematical odds, computer tells you that odds are negative right from the start. Another reason is that trend on 1H chart can flip on A dime & your money is gone.Trend based on the last 5-10,four hourly candles has enough players behind it so that it would not flip on A dime, so trader has decent chance to make something without buying overpriced merchandise.
