This song is still so powerful, 10 years on. I feel the elements from all four corners of the earth convene when that chorus hits.

Don't know why, but this song reminds me of a woman I once loved, but she didn't love me back. She never carried mace, nor was she ever nervous around people, but this whole song really encapsulates everything about the beautiful soul she was, is and always will be. ❤️

Just fell in love with this band. This song and Dark Storm are so entrancing. A little over two minutes in and this song becomes so, so amazing. Makes me think a little of Cocorosie and Grimes and Interpol. So beautiful.

What kind of music is this ? I mean this is almost something like melancholy rock or escaping rock, something that makes you want to fly away and spread peace and love all over the world... Can't describe how I love their music. Beautiful.

There's a place in the town, a statue, She'd make me wait beneath, But its magnif icent archways, archways, That's where I'd go to weep. I'm right up onto the counter; Showgirl, perfect the slow body-roll. And breakaway from the anger, oh, hoe, Just got to let it all go, But she loves me More than anyone who wouldn't lay a hand. She keeps mace spray, For you can't rely on the common man. That night up under the starlight, Holly, you call, 'the great blistering blue, A strange formation came down from the ceiling, And it began to move. And so the shattering shards of glass fell, And glistened this way and that, But she would say I won't find my way through the plaster I'm an empty hourglass in the sand, But she loves me, More than anyone who wouldn't speak like that. She keeps mace spray, For you can't rely on the common man. But it is alright, Here in the time and the place I am, You leave a light on all night, Just to remind of the place I am.

To my understanding it's about the personification of feminism, and the ambivalent view of the relationship between the individual and feminism. How it both helps, but also highlights victimisation, and hopelessness. How feminism can go too far. It's verged on the line of being a toxic lover, pointing out things to fear, without offering protection, or a solution, because that can only come from outside of the movement, with the common man. About breaking the glass ceiling but holding accusations of being trapped in the mould of being a woman, not being able to escape that plaster without being someone else, or stepping away from gender. And the fatalistic outlook that despite how much has changed from the past, that our gains don't matter anyway. Just look at all the statues. That embracing your sexuality and body is both a bad thing, and only for others enjoyment, but is also a freedom, and it would be wrong to conform to other people's views on modesty. The difficulty of finding the balance with internal misogyny and negative self talk (hoe).

My son crashed his car to this song, right in the shards of broke glass part. He loves this bad, I wish they could help him, he make a comment and was answered, by a band member. And they took the time. So all you haters, can f...right off Oh from the mum, that did carry Mace spray, for work and a few other, handy little tools. If the guys in the band read this, your guys might, be able too help him again, he has given up on, being helped medically. And on life.
