The Macedonians were a northern GREEK tribe speaking the ancient greek language ,worshiping greek gods and having similar political and social structure as the cities of southern Greece . Alexander the Great call himself a Greek! He was born in Pella (Greece). Hes father (Philip) was born and died in Vergina (his grave was found here). They spoke and wrote in Greek! But the most important of all is: the Slavs are an Indo-European breed that spread from central and eastern Europe as well as from northern and central Asia and settled in the area in the 6th century BC. The etymology of the word derives from the "slaves," and is known as sclaveni and sclavi. Well, if we weren't enslaved by the Ottoman Empire now no one would be fighting over names. Under the Byzantine Empire, we were all Christians living and navigating through the empire with no problem. The whole thing started when nations wanted to liberate themselves from the Ottomans, so to do that you had to form some kind of nationalistic idea and the importance of Ethnos, for example, Greeks, Serbians, Bulgarians etc. Till that time we were all Rum/ Romans and the Slavs and Bulgarians. So it got really facked up.
