It's plain obvious that even them have doubts about their relationship. It's not the first time that Mac talk about the fact that maybe they work together only when there is adrenaline, he even told Riley about it when he told her why they broke up. They want to see if it can work, but I'm pretty sure it's not gonna last. Desi is a good character, she's kickass, kind and always ready to help others. But her temper is so much like Mac's that they clash more often then not. I think a lot of the complaints about them as a couple (other than the fact that Mac and Riley have a lot more chemistry and a lot more of relationship development) is that we haven't seen them as a couple. They were in couple and broke up between season 3 and 4 and we haven't seen any of that relationship. Maybe if we got to see more moments between them, more discussions about their past, what they like about each other, just them together in genuine and emotional moments we could relate and like them more. This is what Riley and Mac got together while Desi and him haven't.
