I know :( I tried to make gunpowder like MacGyver did as a kid from bird shit, match heads and charcoal. I spent a whole afternoon scraping dried bird shit from walls and pulverising it. I was very disappointed that MacGyver had lied to me. Now I know it would have worked if I had extracted the bird shit with hot water and evaporated the extract to get crude nitrate. Watching MacGyver as a kid is what inspired me to pursue a chemistry degree though.

This one doesn't. He has no detonator for this fert bomb. He could put it in a metal pipe bomb and burn it with an oil soaked rag. Sometimes that works as the pressure increases. (It worked like 20% of the time and only if the nitrate was sensitized with some compound with chromium or something.)
