Mach 4 Surface Mapping

Is it possible in MACH4 to save probe area, I scan the same size board over and over. Or will it show information from the last scan? Also, instead of having to save a file and then open the file, wouldn't it make more sense for there to be an "apply map" button to apply the Z map to whatever gcode file you open? Seems a no brainer. I see this is from 2 years ago, maybe this has been improved?

Hello, is it possible to use a laser displacement sensor instead of the probing head? My goal is To save time replacing bit/probe and eliminate the need of z axis up and down during the surface mapping process. How can i do it? I already have panasonic laser displacement sensors HL-G125 and I'm trying to use it but i have no ideas how to read the signal (distance) from the sensor in the specific points and send it back to mach4. In a specific XY point the the mach4 need to send signal to the laser sensor to provide back the measurement (distance) in this point and based on that mach4 will create the mapping file? The sensor already have I/O circuit with communication methods rs-422 or rs-485 (SD+, SD-, RD+, RD-). Appreciate your help

I know this feature has been around for several years. I have never used it, but it is something extremely useful if correctly implemented. What are the practical limitations of it?

Trying to get this to work i have mach4 and smoothstepper, probe does activate but when i run this program the z goes down probe activates and machine moves to next probe spot without raising the z axis it just drags the probe still active. Any thoughts of what is wrong? I have been testing for a week using a touch plate to simulate probe and it does not rise up. Probes activates stops and moves over no z up motion? Thanks in advance. Nice video. Is there some kind of dependancy between the surface Map and the file that is loaded in Mach4? I mean IF there is a Map of the surface that will be mashined, CAN I start for example Rough and Finish programs using this Map ???

There are lot like that on Amazon and eBay. Just search for CNC 3d probe to find them.

I recognize that black plastic on your spoil board. Have not seen the probe you are employing here
