Those swivel seats are super cool. When I was a kid, we had a car that the front seats swiveled from front facing to side facing to aid with getting in/out of the car. It was a novel idea. Thanks for highlighting the tech.

Suppliers like Magna have to do all the innovation for legacy auto because they have little vertical integration and don't seem to be able to handle the transition for EVs. The other thing automakers are failing at is software.

It’s amazing how quickly suppliers can copy Tesla ideas and technology. The trick of course is will they be able to leapfrog Tesla and become leaders rather than followers.

93% efficiency is wild, I can't wait to never drive a 30% efficient gas guzzler ever again....The technology is already here, it just needs to be scaled up and become drastically cheaper and for governments to support it.

800v is becoming the standard. I wonder if Rivian will switch?

Yes 800v will be the normal because it more efficient and less amps

That drive is cool imo because it looks about the size of a standard Ford 8.8" rear end. Something that compact and powerful? Could enable easier ev swaps for those who want to elktromod their classics or muscle cars vs just buying a newer ev! Also pack weights are steadily coming down even without semi solid state or solid state cells in the mix. Example the most recent Renault 5 ev. Has a 661# 52kwh pack using 4 main prismatic cell modules. That is over 100# less than a tesla 57kwh lfp pack weight. Cheaper, lighter more easily sourced cells alongside stuff like this magna compact drive module will really boost ev conversions imo. Especially in combination with stuff like the aem Holley high voltage ev swap specific parts. 😎👍🏻

These innovations are wonderful news. For me I look forward to those motors making an EV or Hybrid conversion for my 2011 Jeep Wrangler (and other vehicles) a viable option. Thanks for showing us what's up at Magna.

Integrating the EV's floor with the battery cover sounds nice in theory. In practice, it means whenever the battery goes thermal, it will vent directly into the cabin, mix with air within the enclosed space and detonate like Jeep 4XEs. Such integration will likely get banned for safety reasons, need fireproofing and venting between the battery cover and cabin. Even if we get SSBs that don't turn into flame throwers when they fail, we'll still need enough thermal insulation between the battery and cabin to prevent the carpet from catching fire before people can GTFO when the battery has a meltdown.

I guess 800v motor just reduces wiring size. The seat rail more interesting. Thing with EVs of the future, they can be reused as tiny spaces like small office or entertainment room if only we can reconfigure the seats.

I like the seat configuration for tall people you can move the back seat back, most back seat are fixed in one position cool.came on Tesla abit of catching up here lol

If 93% efficiency is the peak for just the motor, that's not good. If motor+gearbox, acceptable. If motor+gearbox+inverter, amazing.

It is not just a range problem when you load up any EV the vehicle's range is affected dramatically so they are still useless.

this is really something that the EV haters do not understand - the fast development in EV tech. an EV has advantages and disadvantages over ICE vehicles. biggest problems that we hear everyday: range, price, charging speed. now the whole world is working on making EVs cheaper and better. that development is at least 5 times faster than ICE tech development. if an EV does not fit to your application today, the next one might fit.

Great company, BUT, matters not. Until battery technology "fixes" 100% of the issues, no new motors or gimmicks would MATTER!
