In my neck of the woods (Southern Caribbean) a machete is also used as a blunt instrument. Specifically, you can slap someone with the flat of the blade. That move is called planasse in the French Kreyol common to many of the Eastern Caribbean islands, and planazo in Spanish speaking places in the region. It stuns the recipient, hurts like crazy, sends a VERY clear message, but causes no significant injury, except to the ego. Joe Flowers describes it as being pimp-slapped with a machete, which is both accurate and funny.

@@charlescollier7217 I have slapped myself with my own machete. I can attest that it does indeed hurt.

Love the cube intro. Machete makes great musical sounds like a violin. We wouldn't recommend doing food prep after using it grooming yourself though.

I spent a week in the woods with nothing but a medium sized middle third sawback machete. Cleared out the vegetation, built a lean-to, a fire shield, used the handle as a bearing block, made a maul, a spoon, a wooden knife, a shovel, split wood, dug a latrine, a bark bowl, gathered water from vines, basically everything I needed. I did have to make natural cordage with my hands for fishing but aside from that.... the machete served me very well.

I'm glad you did this vid. Give me a Ferro rod, and a decent machete, and I'm good to go. I know different people have different preferences, and that it all depends on the environment, etc, but I've literally survived with nothing but a solid machete. I've tried the same with a fixed blade, a folding knife, a saw, a hatchet, and a splitting axe. The machete was, by far, the easiest to run solo with.

amusing, I am with Alan Kay here and prefer a Khukuri, although I have a golok that I made that gets a lot of use as well.

I use a12 inch Ontario with a saw back but I don’t use it as a wood saw. I use it to saw bone and meat. I spent many years in the jungle in the P. I. Living like the indigenous peoples

I'm more interested in how you keep your ducks and chickens from getting eaten! You have a dog that protects them or what? We got away with total free-range for a long time but eventually got our flock wiped out by coyotes and foxes, even after making a secure (I thought) run for them.

We have definitely lost a bunch. We typically just replace the ones we lose and a get a few extra each year.

Anybody who prefers to keep their toes, uses toe clippers. Using a long blade to trim toenails isn't manly, it's stupid. Skal
