Machiavelli is definitely a product of his environment. He grew up in renaissance Italy when city states essentially governed themselves. He was I believe an advisor to the Medici banking family.

Indeed he was!!

Actually he supported the Republic of Florence and he was tortured and exiled by the Medici when they reclaimed power under Leo X. The Prince (only a portion of the Discourses) was his attempt to return to Florence.

Machievelli was actually a proponent of the city state. But he wrote "The Prince" because he needed work - used it a sort of a "job application." True - learned this with Professor Jack Spielvogel in a 400 level history class at Penn State.

@@j2times2006its a sentiment on pre-determinism, via cynical russian phrasing. it means that one's fate in life is only known to a creator (God). A sentence you use to show humility and that you are not ultimately 'steering the ship.' ...The fate of the one being hanged was only foreseen and pre-determined by the creator of our reality (a sentence used if you believe in that philosophy, as opposed to the idea of entropy, absurdism, nihilism...there are lots of poisons to choose from in turning your back on our ambivalent creator.)

When USA was under the Trump administration through potentially the most difficult times in the modern day with the pandemic, yet economy flourish from a financial view somehow Trump kept USA a float (outside looking in) he didn’t in the situation that was in front of him collapse and I can honestly say that I don’t think Ukraine would have fallen under attack from Russia. The first 6 ish months he was out of office in the theatrical smoke screen that was put on for the rest of the world Russia went to war on Ukraine under the cloak of ‘NATO’ (war needs a driving factor) if Trump was in office now I strongly believe Russia would have been to scared to launch there attack! Because Trump stood out and stud up and even if the case wasn’t as it seemed other nations would not mess with Trump because he was a man of his word, under Trump there had been economic growth and a decrease in military action over seas, he loves America and wanted to strengthen the position of your nation first before looking after others (I don’t understand how that makes you a bad person) he was elected to drive America back to being a power house. Sorry to say Biden has shown that was Trump that bad? Because there was less war and more money being made by the average person. But agenda does not want peace and power to the people under him and it is so easily seen. Name one thing Biden promised the United Sates that has been put in place “successfully”. Under Trump as an English man looking in Trump was bringing back that fire that the country needs, spoke out at things that no other member of congress dare speak of and has been twisted and turned the gun has been pointed at him. Ask your self what does and American President and congress look like to you? Because it is not what you have right now, the damage in your great country it will take years to recover from of the right person takes the nation. I doubt Chaz or Michael will read this I hope it gets to you. Great show.

On one side, anybody nowadays can go to a book store and purchase a copy of 'The Prince', which shows how great human civilisation even with all the flaws in human nature. I believe the prince is more tongue in cheek criticism then a legit how too manual. his "prince" at the time was a bitter rival and would be the last guy he would 'advise". furthermore he was loyal to republic governance. i think one of his friends said Machiavelli dressed in togas and pretend he was in the roman republic. I'd argue the prince is closer to mafia democracy, where the book is to lay out all the dirty tricks autocrats use so the people can watch out.
