It made me realize how bad of a spot United States is in. Oh I remember reading Machiavelli when I was young, maybe around senior year in high school. The problem I thought then with the book is that people tend to think if a book is a classic or if something is found in a classic it must be a piece of wisdom or truth. Put in perspective he was an advisor to a prince I think and most of the things he said was so worldly/secular/self-interest driven and crafty and loathsomely manipulative that anybody who aspires to have and lead a noble mind and life wouldn't and must not heed much what he said in the book. Everybody is similar in intelligence and has pretty much the same sharp instinct (what separates is courage, self-control and thinking for others), and by appearance, substance or feeling/energy everyone can tell when someone is being manipulative. When you think you're smarter or superior to someone else and can fool that person, just be aware that that "fool" may fool you by acting a fool to fool you. Self-delusion and arrogance/pride comes before fall.

Respectfully, I would like to disagree with some of what you said. The book is about how to manage a society if you are a ruler, and how to go about controlling everything that you can, so that you can assert and protect yourself as an effective ruler. You said that the guide emphasized self-interest regarding the ego. A ruler/leader will only ever climb to power if they are selfish and egotistical. Publicly, they won’t show this because they are appearing good (or “noble” in your words) but in reality they must enforce strong, immoral practices behind the scenes. Whether it’s seizing opportunity to grow through wicked actions or cruelly punishing a senior leader within the government to discourage certain behavior. The truth is that leaders must be wicked and inhumane at times in order to assert dominance and control people. A leader who is passive, submissive, and/or empathetic will likely be taken advantage of by the wicked. Therefore, it is better to be feared rather than loved, so long as you are not hated. Because at the end of the day, ideas are not what determines who is right. Power is what determines who is right.

Also if we kept the gold standard the economy could never grow because we would run out of gold. If you have not, you should visit Florence. I was on a vacation for a week there with the family of my gf and we were constantly dragged from museum to gallery to a castle non stop with no breaks walking stupid amount of distance daily and I hated it. Now a few months later I have readed multiple books on the renesanse Florence including Machiavelli and the Medici and I am for certain coming back with the proper knowledge to appreciate the cradle of the renaissance. I'm not sure they know. Been fighting for quite a few years if I remember correctly. How fortuitous; the timing of these tragedies. This is a video that everyone should share especially to young people that were not taught how printing money with nothing to back it up can cause inflation, that the population has to pay for in the long run. They should go back to the gold standard imo. This would keep governments from not over spending. I hope a lot of young people get access to this video and watch it to the end. They would learn a lot about why our government should not be printing money especially to send overseas, because in reality we are ALL paying for that printing of money.
