There is an inspiring story behind 'Imperium' by Machine Head... and this 2003 album 'Through the ashes of empires'... It came after one of Machine Head's dismal periods. In 2001, Machine Head worked w/ Disturbed's producer Johnny K and recorded a rather sub-par 4th album 'Supercharger'... attempting to navigate the post-nu-metal scene. The first single released was called 'Crashing around you'... and then the 9/11 attacks happened. MTV and media outlets pulled the single because of the lyrics being 'too close' to the tragedies. 'Supercharger' had no promotion that fall and charted at #115 on the US charts... The album was also Machine Head's last studio record on the contract w/ Roadrunner Records, and it did not look like it would be renewed... So, they were open to signing w/ another label. Touring into 2002, Machine Head's shows were selling poorly... Their guitarist Ahrue Luster ended up quitting... Phil Demmel (guitar) filled in for the last shows, the last of which was a bar in California... The band turned over tapes recorded for a live album 'Hellalive' in 2002 and began writing as a 3-piece band, looking for new record label. Months passed and Machine Head was rejected by every record label by 2003... sales of 'Supercharger' were literally 1/3 of the sales of their 1999 album 'The burning red'... The music industry in America left Machine Head for dead. A frustrated Robb Flynn (vocals & guitar) wrote the angriest, heaviest material he could... and 'Imperium' was one of the scorcher tracks 🔥That was the way to go... Machine Head had nothing to lose, so they went for the full-on extreme metal record. Finally, an offer came from the UK division of Roadrunner Records, who handled their European distribution. They wanted to re-sign Machine Head and bring them back to Europe... They needed a 2nd guitarist, so Phil Demmel (guitar) signed on and finished the writing and recording of 'Through the Ashes of Empires'... which Rob Flynn produced himself. Released in the Fall of 2003, their 5th album charted all over Europe (#77 in the UK) and Machine Head were in big demand on tour in the UK and Europe. By 2004, the hype on Machine Head's new album reached America, and Roadrunner Records in the US finally agreed to re-sign Machine Head and released 'Through the Ashes of Empires' in '04... it reached #88 on the US charts and was a success, putting Machine Head on tour in the US going into 2005. It is considered one of the best Machine Head albums in the catalog... songs like - 'Days turn blue to gray' ... 'Elegy' ... 'Seasons wither'... 'In the presence of my enemies'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘

I didn't know you guys hadn't done this song! So ya. The lead singer is 1 of the founding members of Vio-lence. Then. Phil Demmel joined up until 2018. He left cause well, Rob's is kind of a tool. Vio- came back not long after Phil became available.

This and then 'The Blackening' were MH's height, great albums. Then Rob Flynn went political and whiney/cringe with the writing of an angsty 13yr old, all the band members left.

Listen to some interviews! I love machine head and it’s a challenge to be into their music but totally agree with the dislike of the singer! Robb F. is such a f**** arrogant dude, he is so convinced about him owing the truth and being above some people… Imo he is a person with narcissistic attitudes. Ps: yes the truth will set you free and Robb will tell you for sure what the truth is

Machine Heat is a Christian band. More than enough evidence of this in their catalog. And if you disagree you're not paying attention lol

Usually "groove metal" is characterized by a raspy voice and growls You can see this in almost every groove metal band. Pantera, Lamb of god etc...
