LYRICS
I was born as a bastard, no father, no master,
A shadow in silence left searching for answers
Put up for adoption and left with no option
Another kid fostered to fester forgotten
Take a look into these desperate eyes
As they’re cast into the wretched hive
But I ain’t going down alone
Is there anybody out there?
Anybody listening to me?
Is anybody else scared?
The paranoia, drops me to my knees
Does anybody feel lonely?
Disconnected from the things I see
Is there anybody out there?
Anybody out there just like me?
I’m choking on these words and I can’t breathe
Now I stand as a father, to men with no honor
Ashamed of the racists I used to call brothers
Cause no flag can mean bravery,
when bloodied by slavery,
The rebel, a devil, disguised as a savior
And the sickening feeling in the air
Is the fear to speak that no one dares
So will I stand here all alone?
Is there anybody out there?
Anybody listening to me?
Is anybody else scared?
The paranoia, drops me to my knees
Does anybody feel lonely?
Disconnected from the things I see
Is there anybody out there?
Anybody out there just like me?
I’m choking on these words and I can’t breathe
Live my life like I’ll die tonight
Dream like I’ll live forever
I have roared at the world for years
Doesn’t anybody hear me?
This burden suffered, I’ve paid the cost
Not all who wander are lost
Is there anybody out there?
Anybody listening to me?
Is anybody else scared?
The paranoia, drops me to my knees
Does anybody feel lonely?
Disconnected from the things I see
Is there anybody out there?
Anybody out there just like me?
I’m choking on these words and I can’t breathe

Robb Flynn is the man. No debates will ever be heard from me. He is a one of kind songwriter. Even when he goes commercial like this track, Crashing Around You, I Defy, From This Day, etc.... He keeps it heavy, He keeps its interesting, He keeps the balls and grit in the vocals. Robb is a pioneer.

All I can say to this band is: just make the music YOU want to make. Don’t make mainstream songs just because the mainstream wants, and don’t make old school songs just because old school fans want. Make whatever songs YOU want to make, and just because YOU want. Nobody else. You guys are one of my top bands of all time. I’m proud of you.

This is so MH. Kids, listen to the old albums. You may not like this compared to the thrash they've been doing recently but this is completely in line with their overall sound. If you haven't heard the 70 & 80s punk/poppunk influence then you haven't been listening.
@Overrwatcher
@Overrwatcher 8 жыл бұрын
Sorry, all I heard was the super dark and ultra-heavy groove in their old music. They were metal as fuck and were on a label known for its death metal back then. There was some punk influence in early MH, simply because the two genres were parallel: metal had punk influences and vice versa. I can't see even remotely any bit of pop punk ever in anything in their first two albums however. If there is pop punk influences in songs like "Take My Scars", then fucking Cannibal Corpse might as well be pop punk influenced in that fucked up view. If you're talking about The Burning Red and Supercharger, those albums are massive outliers in Machine Head and it's like saying that Celtic Frost is a glam band or Cryptopsy is a deathcore band simply because they released one album of those styles which were universally hated.

+Overr I completely agree with Overr. Ive been listening to machine head since they toured with sepultura n theyve lightened up n got heavier back n forth over their career and I stuck with em. But after hearin this garbage im done with em. I never heard a singe synth or any punk rock b.s. on THE MORE THINGS CHANGE. I heard a metal band destroying with zero give a fuck. Talkin shit bout cops (bay of pigs) n all the violence in the city they grew up in (spine) Sorry to all machine head fans that our beloved non mainstream underated gods just sold out. Oh and on a side note. Hey rob. You should probly avoid any contact with Phil Anselmo. Cause hes probly cravin some serious contact with you after that chicken shit vid u put up bout him. HAPPY GLAM MUSIC MAKING MACHINE HEAD!!!

Out of all the funny comments your is the funniest, Deo. Because of your complete lack of reading comprehension. I didn't say Machine Head was death metal, they were always far from it. I'm saying that ROADRUNNER was known for its death metal like Deicide back then. Jesus fuck you are dumb.

NO, Machine Head DISINTEGRATED when THE Drummer, Chris Kontos, departed the band, after Burn My Eyes ... maybe seeing the writing on the wall: their lack of direction/continuity; the dabbling in emo; the dabbling in "urban" mannerisms/vocal delivery/style of dress; NOT identifying a genre and nailing it, but letting "trends" dictate which direction they go! After I had gotten advance copies of their first album, loved it so much, and spent YEARS telling EVERYBODY in the vicinity about it, and their "potential" to be one of the BEST ever, etc. Machine Head has been nothing but a Miserable FAILURE!!

How about fans who've been following the band since the 90's not digging this? I've been on board for every album, love them all (bar a few tracks) but this sounds very rushed and I hate to say it but it sounds amazingly unfocused for MH and not a good direction either. Still out here waiting for new stuff (and tour) though.

The first time I heard this? I didn't get it... I've been a Machine Head fan for 20+ years now. I've been with them through the line up changes, the highs and the lows (And god know that these guys have had plenty...) But you know what? I sat down and listened to Robbs stories, I listen to how much this means to him. And I believe him. I believe that what ever these guys did or didn't do over the years was exactly what they wanted. And now is no different. Second time around I 'hear' the song now, instead of listening to it hoping I was going to hear something reminiscent of 90's era Machine Head. I hear what they are saying. I feel their frustrations with the pandering to social media critics, and the faceless voices, who tear down anything that they don't understand or appreciate. What does it take to become hated? You are listening to it, and all from the comfort of your computers and phones... Second time around I am actually digging this song, and I'm actually listening to it again as I write this. And I am excited by where things could go from here. Because this is a band who has never stopped, even when the odds were stacked up against them. Help build the fire instead of extinguishing the flames. Show support to the bands you love instead of bashing them for something you don't understand. I hope in time that Robb and Phil can sort out any differences with each other. I believe that would have a far greater impact than any song, and would unite people instead of fighting amongst one another. This world is already full of too much hate... And in answer to the question? Yes, we are out here. We will always be here ;)

All you're doing is lowering you're standards cause you want to be a fanboy. It's ok it happens. Just know there some other great bands out there still making music that gets better but raising the bar further. This here is just mediocre. Save the lyrics of a rap song or poem. The music is average at best.
@jasonshelton9786
@jasonshelton9786 8 жыл бұрын
Well said. Robb and crew most likely are aware that some people aren't going to like this. But it is something THEY wanted to do. They could of just as simply "played it safe" by sticking with the blackening/locust sound. Respect for having some balls and taking a few risks, which they've never been afraid to do.
@NSTBTMELB
@NSTBTMELB 8 жыл бұрын
Jason Shelton Thats just it. There are those who will never be happy with what ever they do, because it's not 'Burn my eyes 2' 'The blackening 2' 'The more things change 2' and so on... This is Machine Head in 2016, still going strong, still pushing forward, and still kicking ass. If they still sounded exactly the same as they did 20 years ago? Then they haven't learned anything. This is a band that is pushing, and I love that they are trying something new. Because whilst they do have a couple of albums that aren't as strong as others? They were necessary for them to develop themselves as song writers. 'Through the ashes of empires' might never have happened if they didn't know what it was to fall. And if they didn't develop songs that had more melody and choruses on their previous two albums. I'm excited for the future of Machine Head, because they still have something to say and offer musically. They aren't afraid to call it like it is, and they are still a force to be reckoned with live. And not many bands can still say that after being around for as long as they have ;)

Is there anybody out there? Is there anybody out there? Is there anybody out there? Is there anybody out there? Come on, come on, come on. Is anybody out... Come on, come on. I was born as a bastard, no father, no master, A shadow in silence left searching for answers Put up for adoption and left with no option Another kid fostered to fester forgotten Take a look into these desperate eyes As they’re cast into the wretched hive But I ain’t going down alone Is there anybody out there? Anybody listening to me? Is anybody else scared? The paranoia, drops me to my knees Does anybody feel lonely? Disconnected from the things I see Is there anybody out there? Anybody out there just like me? I’m choking on these words and I can’t breathe Come on, come on, come on. Is anybody out... Come on, come on. Now I stand as a father, to men with no honor Ashamed of the racists I used to call brothers Cause no flag can mean bravery, when bloodied by slavery, The rebel, a devil, disguised as a savior And the sickening feeling in the air Is the fear to speak that no one dares So will I stand here all alone? Is there anybody out there? Anybody listening to me? Is anybody else scared? The paranoia, drops me to my knees Does anybody feel lonely? Disconnected from the things I see Is there anybody out there? Anybody out there just like me? I’m choking on these words and I can’t breathe Live my life like I’ll die tonight Dream like I’ll live forever Live my life like I’ll die tonight Dream like I’ll live forever I have roared at the world for years Doesn’t anybody hear me? This burden suffered, I’ve paid the cost Not all who wander are lost Is there anybody... Is there anybody... Is there anybody... Is there anybody out there? Anybody listening to me? Is anybody else scared? The paranoia, drops me to my knees Does anybody feel lonely? Disconnected from the things I see Is there anybody out there? Anybody out there just like me? I’m choking on these words and I can’t breathe Come on, come on, come on. Is anybody out... Come on, come on. Is there anybody... Is there anybody... Is there anybody out there?

If you truly love a band/artist you should do what made you love them in the first place and just listen. It's hard for me to understand how people can dismiss this song. Machine Head is known for being epic at changing styles and staying relevant. I get there's no shredding here, but please try and hear the message rather than searching for a band trying to showcase skills....Machine Head has proven musical talent over and over again, so maybe it's time we listen when they come out with a song that sounds like it was meant for a broader audience and support it as fans. Because the message is something that needs to be heard.

The chrous has always stood out as catchy to me but I "get" it now. I hope they play this live on the 31st of January in 2020 @ The Filmore in Silver Spring, Maryland! 🤘🤘

Now We Die was a masterpiece. this seems to last minute..... ....because it was. people that are hating don't realise the purpose of this song. It's not meant to be a Machine Head classic. it's meant to send Robs message about how the situation of Racism in metal isn't getting any better. watch the previous videos on machine heads channel. especially the part 2 video to the concept "is there anybody out there?" and watch the last minute where Rob is standing near a window. it explains everything

Damn people really hating on this song, 'sounds like slipknot' just saying I listen to both bands religiously and they sound similar cos of reasons (low guitars and faster drums) but they are different musically and in general just different. This is my opinion of course if you disagree idc

@@beaver3224 a riff does not make a song. Mechanics and four horsemen are two different songs. Same riff. One is faster and more brutal. It might not even be the same riff, could be the same sounding to our pleb ears. Up or down one or half an octave, and step to make it faster. Could also be chords not notes. You can play some chords on different notes and they sound the same.

It is, indeed, a shame, as it should've had way more dislikes. For the utterly atrocious music, vocals and absolutely cringeworthy (with an added bonus of hypocrisy, considering one certain track on Catharsis), teenage-level edgy lyrics.

@@lazar2949 In case of Robbbbb's songwriting - yes, yes and yes. Because all there is is teenage whining, which is pathetic since the man himself was almost 50 years old back then. But, admittedly, these lyrics still aren't as bad as the lyrcs in "Do or Die".
