Lyrics : I needed to start running away We're no good, it's me I'm trying to save Treading water we're just numbing the pain Spinning round as we circle the drain Pick the pieces up and turn it around I bring the hammer down Somehow I couldn't say to you, the things to make it right The words just came out wrong and then we'd end up in a fight 'Cause I guess I fucked up, messed this luck up And I blame myself But man, I gotta let it go Take a shot and let it roll Then I can almost clear my head 'Til I'm alone laying in bed Thinking Get the fuck away from me (3x) Get the fuck away I needed to start running away We're no good, it's me I'm trying to save Treading water we're just numbing the pain Spinning round as we circle the drain Pick the pieces up and turn it around I bring the hammer down Between the cocaine and the lies The truth and alibis Excuses don't mean anything when tears run down our eyes All I do is remember, last September Sitting in your car And hearing "Man, I gotta go" And I wish it wasn't so But we were circling the drain But we were circling the drain Just can't change Get the fuck away from me(3x) Get the fuck away I needed to start running away I'm no good, it's you I'm trying to save Treading water we're just numbing the pain Spinning round as we circle the drain Pick the pieces up and turn it around And bring the hammer Get the fuck away from me(3x) Get the fuck away Get the fuck away from me(3x) Get the fuck away I needed to start running away We're no good, we we're just trying to save Treading water we were numbing the pain Spinning round as we circle the drain I needed to start running away We're no good, we we're just trying to save Treading water we were numbing the pain Spinning round as we circle the drain Pick the pieces up and turn it around And bring the hammer down Bring the hammer down

PROS: - Great melody, chorus, hook - Good lyrics by Rob, back to being abstract and serve the song - nice thrashy breakdown - song not too long and no guitar solo which wouldn't fit this mid-tempo number CONS: - the subdued verses break up the flow, they're not too bad but wish MH just would have kept the same musical vibe going on a la Deftones RESULT: For first time in years I'm now cautiously optimistic about future Machine Head music again
@cellyzs4 жыл бұрын
Do songs have to be abstract to be good? Like honestly, I know alot of people were upset about previous songs cuz they were upfront, but that's that make song bad or was it just because of the subject content?
@kylegoodman51964 жыл бұрын
Man the people ripping on Robb for being direct with his lyrics are total clowns.
@sixonesix94294 жыл бұрын
Five finger death punch are the only proof you need of terrible "on the nose" lyrics that sound like they are written by a 5 year old. Abstract is always better from a musical standpoint. Leaves things open to interpretation imo.
@kylegoodman51964 жыл бұрын
@@sixonesix9429 Five Finger Death Punch's lyrics are only bad because they write about the same topics as bro country. There is very little lyrically aside from profanity that separates an FFDP song from a Florida Georgia Line song. Robb has always written about real issues and actual injustices, things that don't need poetry to be ruminated upon.
@cellyzs4 жыл бұрын
@@sixonesix9429 But why is leaving things open to interpretation automatically make a song good? And not doing it make it bad? I think that's bullshit. Look at "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden, very direct and amazing song. There are many songs that are forgettable sometimes because they're not direct enough or too abstract. I love Tool, but not all their songs are my favorite because they're abstract.

Anyone else hate the machine head fan base?i love machine head a lot.But the fans can be so picky as hell only taking a burn my eyes or blackening part 2.Like I’ll admit do or die had some good instrumentals and same with catharsis which wasn’t a bad album really and I don’t personally agree with what rob Flynn thinks but he has his views and this is how he puts it out and honestly props to him because yeah some thoughts I don’t agree with and some are better left shut and forgotten but music is a way for anything to be said and to get off your chest.Honestly I feel bad for rob, we kinda caused this.Catharisis wasn’t a bad album but yet we only wanted another unto the locust.Rob was also attacked for having different views which we are all going to be different.Its gotten to a point where robs music is no longer his, it’s basically belonging to the machine head fan base where he has to have his music put through their approval for it to be music.I have a feeling do or die was meant to piss us off because he wanted to rebel against his controllers:us the fans.And circle the drain means an experience leading to disaster or failure which I’m taking he is saying he will try his hardest o give us something and we keep nit picking at it and he the hate gets to him leading him to one failure after another.I just feel like we just get to picky and this song is honestly something I love and the lyrics touch me as well.Hope you get better rob🤟

The Machine Head fan base is definitely pretty annoying, but honestly it's the same with every metal band's fan base. Metal fans absolutely loathe when a band changes it's sound in any way whatsoever, and the only bands without a toxic fanbase are the ones who never ever shake up their sound like Iron Maiden, Slayer, etc.
@moe20914 жыл бұрын
Tbh it's a natural consequence of a band being around for so long. People that were fans around BME are aged between 45-60, and newer fans are likely teens, and each album has different sounds. Heck even the nu metal era fans are middle aged now. You can't please everyone but I guess it makes it exciting seeing how the band and Rob are experimenting. It's quite brave and even the lesser albums have some gems. Not to mention how amazing the live shows are!!

I was thinking this being released on Valentine's Day was intentional DUE to it being about a dysfunctional relationship. Not as a marketing ploy or in an ironic way, but because Valentine's Day can be difficult for many individuals due to the distress of relationship troubles (Personally, my ex-wife and I separated in early April a few years ago and Valentine's day was rough that year. I would make her a Valentine's Day card each year but that year I couldnt find it in me to do it, so I went to a store to buy a token card but after reading nearly all of them I about lost it after realizing giving her any of them would communicate a lie about my feelings) and part of Machine Heads' ethos is solace through music. The number of people that will play the shit out of this before/during/after a break up is going to be huge. Well done Machine Head!
