Way back in 1995... I was 14, covered in zits and mostly into the indie, grunge and "alternative" music that was doing the rounds at the time, this album came into my possession, and I was rudely kicked face first by a Robb Flynn riff straight into being a metal fan and I never looked back. Although this song is nearly twenty years old it hasn't aged and still sounds awesome.

Time around 93-94 was just so awesome , with bands like Pantera, Machine Head, Sepultura, Fear Factory etc kicking ass and with Headbanger's Ball to watch every sunday night on MTV where you could catch all of those bands (remember: this was before the internet and KZbin). Damn those were some good old times, never to return.

I love old Machine Head, and this is obviously the title track. You have to understand it in context of the time in which it was released. Pantera had topped the charts a few months before, and the executives definitely didn't want to release an album aimed at youth entitled 'Old'. So the track that was closest to being a Pantera clone was released as the first track and single. Those industry influences don't make this any less of a classic of metal, or elevate Davidian to that level.

They're almost industrial groove with similarities to Pantera but not the same (better even?) and Fear Factoryish choruses. i just read on Ultimate-Guitar that this album still holds up. That's true, it does. I would describe it almost as fusion metal. It's hard to pigeonhole it really
