Wow. That’s so cool. I didn’t know you could create this on the knitting machine. When I did a baby blanket I ended up crocheting a scalloped edge for it. Now I know how to do it on the knitting machine it will make things so much faster. Thank you.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. What do you think about joining two machines together?😊
@dianaknits

I've thought about it, known people who did it, but never did it myself. It is usually a strategy for making one-panel afghans, which saves time. You will have to walk back and forth as you push the carriage.

Diana, you are a great teacher. I love your short and thorough lessons. Thank you. ( I bought your blanket book and use that as well). I am a beginner machine knitter. But I have a question, when for example I knit a blanket and use this hem in the beginning. How do I create that same hem at the end of the blanket? Thank you for your time. Maybe you can demo this on how it's done.

I do have some videos coming up about hems at the end of a piece. I really like your idea - I think I'll steal it! Anyway, at the end of the blanket, do a marker row. My favorite marker row is to pull the needles to hold and put a piece of ravel cord over and under the needles across (a weave done by hand). That marks the row well. Then knit the hem as on the bottom, then pick up the marked row (the tool goes exactly where the ravel cord travels through a loop). Then bind off! I do have a video coming up with this onn a plain hem.

@@dianaknits Thank you very much. I will look out for it. Actually I tried that, but failed at making a nice hem end, as I was trying to figure out, how to cast off those stitches. So I am waiting to watch for that and then I can do a nice ending.
@dianaknits
@dianaknits Жыл бұрын
@@mathesonu It makes a lump to cast them off together, but i often do that to save time. You can hand sew the hem down to avoid the lump; video coming on that, too.

Thanks so much for demoing such a cool border. It's really pretty, and would save me time, because i wouldn't have to crochet a scalloped border around a blanket. How would I do this on a KX350? On a KH400 convertible? Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me. I also have a Studio 151 bulky, and I have NO idea what carriage settings would work for this. Do you know?

hi diana i always watch your videos and learn so much from it , i thing i dont understand when picking up the hem is what do you do with the last needle ? because you say there are not enough stitches to pick up
@dianaknits
@dianaknits 2 жыл бұрын
Just leave one of the end needles with just the main bed stitch on it. I always bring this up because nearly ever beginner runs into this and worries that there is a dropped stitch somewhere - but all is well!

I love this hem! Is there a way to make the scallops more pronounced?
@dianaknits
@dianaknits 10 ай бұрын
You could experiment with deeper tucks, but it may not lie very flat. I think if you actually make the hem, you'll probably like the depth.

@dianaknits

Other end of the fabric, put in a marker row, then do the hem, then pick up the marker row. There will be two loops on eash needle, so bind them off together. There are some marker rows in various videos.

Things to know and should be in every book! Beginning row is one stitch short. Explained: because the first cast on row is just the spaces between the needles and stitches are every needle. I have gone insane trying to match stitches.

I'm wanting to play with my 860, but not sure what yarn size to use. What did you use for this? It looks like "baby" (3) yarn. I've got some Plymouth Encore, too. Is that suitable? COOL tut, as usual. Thanks!

On a Brother, would you be able to use the tuck button and put every 6th needle to D position?
@dianaknits
@dianaknits 5 жыл бұрын
Best way - use the H setting and move every 6th needle to E position (hold). If you want to use the tuck buttons, you must move all the plain stitches to D position. The needles in B will tuck.

How can you do this on a baby blanket that is already knitted?
@dianaknits
@dianaknits 3 жыл бұрын
Begin a hem on waste yarn. Knit the hem. Knit the last row of the hem very loosely. Take off on waste yarn. Rehang the blanket, right side facing you, on the machine. Pull needles to hold, latches open, hang loose row of hem on the hooks. Pull hooks through so the loose row stitches pull through the blanket edge. Pick up the bottom of hem onto the hooks. Knit 1 row to close. Bind off.
